The Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology offers Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. In the three-year Bachelor’s programme, we train students to critically examine the everyday practices of individuals and groups around the world in relation to the complex global challenges of diversity, sustainability and digitalisation. Our one-year Master’s programme is a research-oriented programme. It provides students with the unique opportunity to carry out independent ethnographic research.

This institute is wellknown for her open atmosphere, in which staff members are very accessible. The programme consists of both lectures (in English) and tutorials (optionally in Dutch or English).
During the first year you will learn anthropological theories so you can study and write about people in their daily lives. In the second semester you will be taught practical research methods with attention to the visual dimension. In the second year you can specialise by choosing between two tracks, namely People, Power and Planet (PPP) and Media Making Movements (MMM). Also you will conduct a month-long fieldwork project in or near the Netherlands. For a more detailed overview of the courses, please see the Prospectus
