Good afternoon and welcome to Park Lane for today's Pitching In Isthmian League North match against Coggeshall Town.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of the Seedgrowers, as well as today's match officials, and hope that they have an enjoyable visit and a safe journey home afterwards.

Coggeshall Town Today's visitors are currently 10th in the Pitching In Isthmian League North and come into this match following a 4-2 win at home to Aveley last Saturday.

This will be our 33rd competitive match against the Seed Growers excluding expunged results, with our record to date reading P 32, W 20, D 8, L 4, F 97, A 31.

We have already met here at Park Lane once this season in the Buildbase FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round, with an Evans Kouassi goal and a hattrick from Matthew Price earning us a 4-1 victory in late September.

Then, on Wednesday enfleet host Newbury Forest in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League First Division South, kick off at 19:45.

MANAGER'S NOTES BRAD WELLMEN

Hello everyone and welcome to today's match here against Coggeshall Town. We've played and beaten Coggeshall here once already this season, although I expect them to be a different proposition here today under their new management team of Karl Duguid and Stuart Nethercott.

Last Saturday here against Yaxley we put in a very professional performance, killing the tie off by going 3-0 up after only 22 minutes and going on to win 6-0 for the second match in a row. Our start to matches has been the key to our victories recently, and we'll need to come out of the blocks quickly again today if we are to go on an beat a side that come into this match following an impressive 4-2 win at home to Aveley last week.

I was very pleased to be able to give McKenzie Davidson a full 90 minutes. Jamie Salmon wasn't at 100% fitness, and while we could have risked him,

we had total confidence in McKenzie's ability to come in to the starting lineup.

I want us to be a club that offers pathways for young players, and at the age of 17 he really has the potential to go on and become a very good footballer. We will do all we can to keep him on that path and look forward to watching him develop.

It was also great to see Callum Fitzer score his first goal for us. It's a difficult side to break into at the moment, but whenever Callum comes on he impacts the match in a similar way to how Evans does.

After a few near misses he is now off the mark, and I am confident that this will enable him to go on and score more in the future and give me some difficult decisions.

Finally, thanks for the amazing support again, with over 450 people coming to the Yaxley match. Pump up the volume again today!

ISTHMIAN UPDATE LEAGUE NEWS

Hullbridge Sports We'd like to tell you how many Isthmian managers have left their jobs or started new ones during the last month, but sadly whilst we were doing the maths the Isthmian calculator screamed "no more" and burst into flames.

Anyway, the latest departure is Hullbridge Sports boss Steve Sullivan. A brief club statement explained: "Hullbridge Sports can confirm that due to ongoing heavy work commitments, Steve Sullivan has stepped away as 1st team manager but is still active within the club.

"The current Coaching Staff will lead the squad for Saturday."

Steve replaced Darren Manning on September 23rd. Since then the club have played nine matches, drawing two and losing the other seven. They are still searching for their first league victory.

Colin Read joins the club as first team coach.

Tilbury

Tilbury have announced the appointment of former Aveley and Wingate & Finchley boss Keith Rowland as their new manager.

In a statement, they explained: "The club are delighted to announce the arrival of new manager Keith Rowland. After a very tough interview process the club felt Keith would be the right fit for our club and the right man to guide the team back up the table.

latest manager to fall off his horse was this morning named as Hythe Town boss Steve Watt. Steve has decided to step down from his position with the Cannons with immediate effect.

The club issued the following statement: "The club’s directors would like to take this opportunity to thank Steve for all his efforts during his time with the club. The parting is a wholly amicable one and we wish him every success in the future."

"In the interim, assistant manager, Nathan Elder, and player/coach, Frannie Collin, are taking the reins for Saturday’s match at home to Whitstable Town and are in on-going discussions with the board.

"The changes have arisen due to the financial pressures that currently face the club, as per our previous statement. These largely stem from the fact that promised funds have not materialised.

"The directors – all of whom are volunteers – are working as hard as possible to address the current financial predicament and to put the club once more on a firm footing so that we can move forwards."

Steve has been in charge at Reachfields since September 2019, and departs with his side in eleventh place - coincidentally the same place they occupied when his first season, 2019-20, came to a premature end. He was previously in charge at Margate.

East Thurrock United East Thurrock United have announced the appointment of Marc Harrison and Liam Wallace, who recently left Tilbury.

Marc and Liam took over at Tilbury three years ago this month, steering the side into a safe mid table position after their appointment. They were comfortably in a playoff place when the 2019-20 season came to a

premature end, and four points clear at the top when the same thing happened in 202021.

Prior to their time at the Dockers, the duo led Basildon United to promotion from the Essex Senior League and made a great start to their time as a North Division club before departing.

Brightlingsea Regent Brightlingsea Regent have announced the appointment of Brett Munyard, who moves up two levels from White Ensign of the Essex Senior League. Accompanying him is Assistant Mark Healy and coach Ricky Stubbs, making it a new one, two, three for the club, who are currently nineteenth in the Pitching In Isthmian Premier.

Brett replaces Tom Austin, who left the club last week.

In his time at Ensign he has overseen two promotions, from Step Seven to Step Five.

His first job at Regent will be to arrest a slide which has seen them lose eight consecutive games, including yesterday's home thrashing against Horsham, and indeed twelve of the last thirteen. Their first match saw them lose 3-2 at home to Bowers & Pitsea on Tuesday night, having lead 2-0 with two minutes of normal time remaining.

Chairman Terry Doherty told the club website: “We are really excited to have Brett and his team on board. We were really impressed by their attitude, enthusiasm and passion.

Canvey didn't have long to wait for their 3rd goal. On 22 minutes, Chatting's right wing cross found Price who headed home.

Evans Kouassi then thumped in a long range effort that Butcher did well to push away before Price fired wide from a tight angle.

A 4th goal was inevitable and this came on 35 minutes. A counter attack from Kouassi saw him find Price who in return put the winger through. Kouassi calmly stroked the ball past Butcher to pretty much seal the game for Canvey 10 minutes before half time.

With a 4-0 scoreline, it would have been expected for Canvey to slacken the pace and just see out the second half but to their credit they kept attacking.

Eliott Ronto had a great chance to score, minutes into the second half but after Kouassi's shot was saved, Ronto was tackled just as he was about to slot the loose ball home.

Price then broke through but lobbed his 20 yard effort wide before heading over a superb left wing cross from Jey Siva.

It took to just before the hour mark for Bobby Mason in the Canvey goal to make a save when he turned aside a dipping effort from John Paul Duncliffe.

Canvey introduced Callum Fitzer into the action and he nearly scored within moments of coming on, just failing to get a boot to Kouassi's left wing cross.

A 5th goal eventually came on 74 minutes. Kouassi was again instrumental turning a defender inside and out down the left before squaring to Chatting who placed his low shot from the edge of the penalty area past Butcher.

It was 6-0 on 81 minutes with Fitzer deservedly scoring his first goal for Canvey after turning well in the area and firing low across the keeper and into the corner of the net.

It could easily have been 7 with Evangelos Empochontsif and Price being denied by Butcher before a sensational run from Kouassi saw him dribble past several Yaxley defenders but his shot was unintentionally blocked on the line by Price.

A. Not easy to pick just one, as there have been loads of great moments.

A. Chris Smith sober! Only joking!

Off the top of my head, we were playing Waltham Forest in 2006. In the pub before the game this Slovakian guy started talking to us. He ended up going to the game with us but was pretty drunk, and was bashing the life out of the drum we had at the time, and was generally being a bit loopy. Think he disappeared in the second half never to be seen again.

Q. If you had to turn any film into a musical, what would it be?

A. It definitely wouldn't be Casino Royale. That would be scandalous!

Football Factory as a musical could be interesting. I can imagine Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan running around singing whilst clobbering each other!

CLUB HISTORY COGGESHALL TOWN

Joint second oldest original football club seum, suggest that the Football Club in Essex, Coggeshall Town was formed at was founded by J. K. King & Sons, a local a meeting held at the White Hart Hotel, family seed business. The account of the Coggeshall on September 27th 1878. inaugural meeting makes no mention of The official report of that meeting was the company although its role may be published in Coggeshall Parish Magazine acknowledged through the club’s nickin October 1878 and reads as follows: name, “The Seedgrowers” that remains “A meeting was held on Friday last to this day.

27th ult, at the White Hart Hotel for Coggeshall provided the first opposition the purpose of forming a Football Club for both Braintree F.C., in January 1879 in this town. The chairman (Mr. G. F. and Halstead, in November of the same Beaumont) announced that Mr. Hanbury year. League in 1911 –12. Always known as the “Town” team, after the Great War the club resumed as Coggeshall Town, although they played with a degree of success in the Braintree, Kelvedon and Halstead Leagues it was with the N.E.L. Division II that they really made their mark, increasing their titles to an amazing 14 times up to 1939. The post –war period became boom time for the club as they switched from the North Essex League to the Braintree and District League, before broadening their horizons in the fledgling Colchester and East Essex League, where their previous pedigree rewarded them with a Division 1 start in 1950—51. Runners up. A season later, they were promoted to the Premier Division and built up an impressive Supporter's Club with a membership in excess of 200. Long serving officials, Secretary, John Alston and Treasurer, Norman Burton, provided a sound administrative base.

The Club’s ambitious committee, led by Chairman Lou Marks, then Tom Ritson were soon targeting the Border League as their next step up the football ladder, a goal they duly achieved in 1958—59.

But a shock awaited the Seedgrowers, when, in the summer of 1960, they were given notice to quit Highfields, their home for 65 years. Colonel F.t. “The Crops” opened with a Coggeshall Brotherhood Cup –tie against Courtaulds in August 1961. The covered stand was added in 1964.

Now the Seedgrowers began to blossom, winning Division 1 in 1962-63 and under the manager ship of ex Colchester United player, Bob Dale the championship in 1966-67, Alf Marshall was in charge when they retained their title and won the Knock-Out Cup in 1968/69.

Another former Colchester star, Derek Parker, led them to the Border League and Cup double, the Essex Intermediate Cup, 2- 0 v Great Wakering in 1970 –71.

The clubhouse was added in 1971. From 1972 onwards the club played in the Essex Senior League without winning any honours.

The club’s future was threatened again in 1981 when the landowner announced that he wished to sell the land. Once more the club embarked on a fundraising campaign. The commitment of those involved is evident from the efforts of the club manager, Peter Barlow, who embarked on a run from “The Crops” to F.A. Headquarters at Lancaster Gate to hand in an appeal for support to save the ground. A little behind schedule, he arrived at the F.A. to find it closed.

Nevertheless, he raised £500 toward the fund. With the help of Coggeshall Parish Council and the Sports Council the club raised the funding to buy the land and for the first time, just over 100 years since they were formed, Coggeshall Town owned their own facilities.

The facilities at the club were now ready for the team to move up another level and again the team did not disappoint winning the league at the first attempt by 6 points with a goal difference of +116 scoring 146 league goals in the process. The last week of the season was an exciting one, with Coggeshall gaining two wins in five days against their nearest rivals for the title, Felixstowe who were 2nd and Stowmarket who were 3rd. The Away Match at Felixstowe, which was the title deciding game, played in front of a crowd of over 1,541, with Coggeshall recording a 4-2 victory.

This meant that the team achieved its third promotion in a row and moved up to step 4 of the football pyramid for the first time in their 140 year history as they took their place in The Isthmian League Division One North.

The 2018 – 19 season saw further development to the clubs facility’s at West Street, as well as creating new records on the pitch. We were now playing in step 4 for the first time in the clubs History, as well as making our debut’s in the F.A. Cup and the F.A. Trophy . A few additions to the squad were made which enabled us to have a good run in the F.A. Cup, finally losing 1-0 away to Weston-SuperMare in the 3rd Round Qualifying. The good form was carried on throughout the season with the club making the play-offs finishing in 4th place, losing 1-0 away to Maldon & Tiptree in the semifinal.

early close in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic; at this stage, the club had played eight Cup and twenty-six League games. With only four defeats in the league, Town were sitting in sixth place with games in hand over most of their closest rivals and looking in a strong position to make the play-offs for the second season running. Disappointingly, due to the unprecedented circumstances it did not happen.

The 2020/21 season. Due to the continued pandemic, the season got under way in September, which was later than usual. We had made some good summer signings and the squad was looking strong, with the hope of challenging for the play-offs again.

However, after only 10 games, six League and 4 Cup on 31st October the season suspended due to the continued Coronavirus. In the hope of being able, to make restart, Clubs were allowed to keep training and at the beginning of December, we played three friendlies behind closed doors, but with the pandemic worsening the football season was cancelled.

For the forthcoming 2021/22 season, there have been several additions to the squad. Some players have returned to the club after a spell away and several exciting young players have signed. I hope that it will be an interesting and exciting season for fans and with fingers crossed that we will be able to complete a full season.

A new managerial team was appointed in October 2021, consisting of manager Karl Duguid and assistant Stuart Nethercott.
