BEYOND THE BELL

CANNON SCHOOL is proud to offer Beyond the Bell (BTB) after-school enrichment programs for students in Junior Kindergarten–Grade 8, as well as private music lessons for students in Kindergarten–Grade 8.

Q: When and how can I sign up for Beyond the Bell classes?

A: Please register through the Veracross Family Portal. Class fees are due at the time of registration. Registration is not complete until payment has been submitted.

Q: What if I want to cancel or change a class after the session begins?

A: You may cancel within the first week of the session. After a student attends the second class, billing cannot be canceled and full payment is required. If you cancel after the first week, you will be billed only for the one class attended at the per-class rate.

Q: How do I pay?

Registration Opens: November 17 at midnight

Registration Closes: November 28 at 11:59 p.m.

A: Payment is required at registration. You may pay online by credit card or submit cash, check, or money order to the office.

Q: How many students are accepted in each BTB class?

A: Each class has its own minimum and maximum enrollment. Classes that do not reach the minimum will be canceled (with no charges applied). Classes will close once they reach capacity, so early registration is highly recommended.

Q: What if a class is canceled?

A: If a class is canceled, we will do our best to make it up during the designated make-up week at the end of the 10-week session. Families will receive direct communication with details about the rescheduled class.

Music Lessons

Private music lessons are available for students in Kindergarten–Grade 8. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged. Please complete the online registration form through your Veracross Family Portal.

MONDAY

JR. BUILDERS & CREATORS

Offered By: Smart Educational Art

JrK - K Monday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $20/class; $140 total Does your child love to build, design, and create? Then this is the program for them! Each week, your little builder will use teamwork to construct and create all with different mediums such as magnetic blocks and tiles, 3-D puzzles, Legos, and much more! Students will have a blast as they build their fine motor skills, enhance problem solving and critical thinking skills, and build friendships in Jr. Builders and Creators!

MINDFULNESS & MOVEMENT

JrK-2nd Monday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $20/class; $140 total

This fun and engaging class introduces children to the basics of mindfulness through yoga and playful activities that spark creativity and movement. Each session blends gentle yoga poses, expressive dancing, and kid-friendly meditation to help children connect with their bodies and emotions in a positive way. Handson crafts will give them a chance to explore mindfulness through art, while movement games encourage teamwork, self-expression, and confidence. This class provides a safe, supportive space where kids can move, create, and discover the joy of being present.

PAWS & POSE: COUGAR YOGA CLUB

3rd-7th Monday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $22/class; $154 total

Cougars, are you ready to flow, focus, and feel fantastic? Join us on an after-school yoga adventure led by a certified yoga instructor. Students will explore playful movement, calming breath-work, and mindful moments that build strength inside and out. Each session blends fun yoga poses with simple techniques to help manage stress, boost focus, and support emotional balance. Whether we’re stretching like cougars or finding stillness like trees, students will discover tools to feel confident, calm, and connected— on and off the mat.

THE STORY STUDIO

3:00-4:00 p.m. $20/class; $140 total

Step inside The Story Studio, where imagination takes center stage! Each week, we will dream up and create our own original stories through writing, comics, or short films. Together, we’ll explore how ideas grow from brainstorming to storyboarding, and from sketching to filming. Students will practice planning, teamwork, and creativity while learning the basics of storytelling, illustration, and videography. By the end of the session, students will have a collection of their own creative projects and a chance to share. Whether you write it, draw it, or film it...the story is yours to tell!

YOUNG ATHLETE PERFORMANCE PROGRAM (YAPP)

2nd-4th

3:00-4:00 p.m. $18/class; $126 total

Join Coach Donnie Hayes for his young athlete performance program and be a Yapper! Coach Hayes has more than 20 years of experience helping to develop athletes. This program is designed for young athletes to help them begin the journey to reach their full athletic potential. The program will focus on helping young athletes develop one of the most important skills necessary for long-term athletic success. We will work on developing the athlete’s agility, footwork, and body control, and laying the foundation for strength development they will need in the coming years. The sessions will include a dynamic warm-up, a variety of agility drills (ladder and cone drills), and body weight and plyometric exercises. The athletes will find these activities challenging and fun. Join Coach Hayes to begin your journey to achieve your athletic potential.

COUGAR SPORTS

K-3rd Tuesday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $20/class; $200 total

Do you have a budding athlete who always seems to want to run, jump, and play?

In this class, students will be exposed to a variety of sports throughout the session. Sports will include kickball, soccer, Gaga ball and more. Students will learn the rules to the games and go over the fundamentals of each sport and have plenty of friendly competitions each week.

DIAMOND PAINTING

Offered By: Melissa Fox

2nd-6th Tuesday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $25/class; $250 total

Get ready to add some sparkle to your afternoons! In Diamond Painting, students will dive into the colorful world of glittering gems, creating their own dazzling masterpieces. Each week, participants can work on a personal mini project or team up with friends to contribute to a larger collaborative design. This class is all about creativity, focus, and hands-on fun—no two projects are ever the same!

Come join us, place some diamonds, and let your art dazzle!

HOLIDAY BAKING

Offered By: Chef Craig Rosekrans

1st-3rd Tuesday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $25/class; $250 total

Join Chef Craig for a fun hands on baking class. This session we will be baking a variety of sweet treats from scratch. Such as Christmas cut out cookies, gingerbread man cookies, reindeer cupcakes, red velvet whoopie pies, cherry blossom cookies, and mini apple hand pies. The kids will come home covered in flour with a delicious treat after each class!

TUESDAY

MUSIC TECH FOR BEGINNERS

Offered By: Brad

3:00-4:00 p.m. 25/class; $250 total

This class is designed for students who want to explore music performance, but not on a stage. In this class, we will explore all of the fundamental elements of music: rhythm, form, harmony, melody - but all seen through the lens of your Chromebooks. We will employ software that will enable you to create your own music - from original works to cover versions of your favorite hits on the radio. Through studying the music and constructing your own, you will start to listen to music in a new and deeper way. This class combines a lot of hard work, with a whole lot of fun!

WONDER LAB: WHERE ART AND SCIENCE COLLIDE

JrK-1st

WonderLab combines the creativity of art with the curiosity of science. Each week, students will explore an art project that covers a unique science concept. From chemistry-inspired lava lamps to painting with magnets, children will discover through imagining, building, and creating. Each week’s wonder of science will begin with a read aloud followed by an aligned art project that shows the science in action. Get ready for messy hands, big ideas, and discoveries that will spark excitement long after class ends!

WEDNESDAY

BEGINNER STRING ORCHESTRA

Offered By: Anne Marie Samuel

3:00-4:30 p.m. $30/class; $300 total

Have you ever wondered if you could play the violin? If so, this class is for you! Taught by Cannon’s String Orchestra Director, this beginner class will introduce students to basic note reading, posture, and how to hold, play, and tune their instrument. After one trimester, students are encouraged to continue their growth with a private lesson teacher, allowing them to advance at their own pace. This class is not designed for students currently in strings during the school day. Join us for the joy of music-making! *Students will need to rent a violin, viola, or cello after the first class.

CRAFTY ART

Offered By: AR Workshop Concord

3rd-6th

AR Workshop Concord youth workshops offer a hands-on, creative experience where kids explore fun, engaging projects that blend art, design, and STEAM concepts. We have a variety of projects that the children will create over the next 10 weeks. Children are encouraged to buddy up and allow their creativity to flow. Your child will bring at least 5 projects home during the beyond the bell event! We have projects for every athlete, dancer, gymnasts, musician, artist and so much more. Join us for the unique class and have the best experience possible!

GOLF ACADEMY

Offered By: Better Golf for Kids Academy

In this course, we will use fun games to cover all aspects of the golf swing as well as the rules and etiquette of the game. In our program, children will receive expert instructions on grip, set up, the swing, impact and the professional finish! Learn the short game, putting, driving and full swings! Open to all skill levels.

JUNIOR SCULPTORS

Unleash your inner artist in our after-school Junior Sculptors class! Get ready to roll, sculpt, and glaze your way to pottery perfection. With hands-on guidance, kids explore their creativity while making cool clay creations. We will focus on clay monsters, animals, coil pots, and pinch pots. Join us for messy fun and bring home masterpieces to impress the whole family.

COUGAR TENNIS DEVELOPMENT

4th-6th Wednesday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $25/class; $250 total

Hit the court with Coach Lonnie White, Cannon’s Tennis Program Director! This program for 4th–6th graders builds fundamentals, consistency, and smart match play through fast-paced drills and friendly competition. Please bring a racket, water bottle, and tennis shoes/sneakers.

BRAIN BUILDERS CLUB: UNLOCKING YOUR SUPER SKILLS!

2nd-4th Tuesday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $20/class; $200 total

Join the Brain Builders Club — an exciting after-school adventure where 2nd–4th graders discover how to use their brain’s “super skills” to stay organized, focused, flexible, and ready to tackle any challenge! Each week, students will dive into hands-on games, creative crafts, storytelling, and videos that bring executive functioning skills to life. This 10-week club builds real-world strategies through fun activities and teamwork — perfect for boosting confidence in school and beyond!

COED LACROSSE SKILLS

Offered By: Allison Landino & CANNON SCHOOL Lacrosse Coaches

1st-4th Thursday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $20/class; $200 total

This class is taught by coaches and Varsity players of Cannon’s boys and girls lacrosse programs. Participants learn the fundamentals of catching, throwing, cradling, and shooting through a variety of drills and activities, while focusing on teamwork, sportsmanship, and commitment. Sticks and mouth guards are encouraged, but not required.

PLAYTIME LEGO ENGINEERS

Attention all young creators! Step into a world of imagination and innovation with LEGO adventures! Each week, your child will take on fun and engaging building challenges designed to boost problem-solving skills and critical thinking. Students will explore a variety of building techniques, experiment with unique LEGO elements, and work together to bring their ideas to life. Let’s imagine, build, and discover— one brick at a time!

TAEKWONDO

Our BTB Taekwondo program, offered right at Cannon School, keeps students active, focused, and learning valuable life skills in a fun, structured environment. Kids enjoy exciting martial arts classes, character-building lessons, and positive friendships, while parents love the convenience and peace of mind. 4th-6th Tuesday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $25/class; $250 total

This course introduces students to the exciting world of entrepreneurship in a fun, hands-on way. Through creative projects, students will learn how to brainstorm business ideas, design a logo, create products or services and practice marketing. This program encourages teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and confidence as students bring their ideas to life. By the end of the course, students will host a Business Showcase, where they present their creations to family and friends--giving them a real world taste of what it’s like to be a young CEO.

Offered By: Crazy Running Lake Norman Grades

K-8th Friday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $18/class; $126 total

Our chess class curriculum covers a wide age range and meets skill levels from beginner to advanced and is taught by a U.S. Chess Federation rated and certified coach. Analytical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques are emphasized as a tool for learning. Students will be assigned based on their experience/skill level.

COOKING FOR BEGINNERS

Join Chef Craig for an introductory cooking class! This is a hands-on cooking class where students will learn some basic knife skills and cooking techniques. Examples of some of the things we will make are Omelets, Fresh pasta, Asian dumplings, chicken lo mein, and Pizza. The kids will have a blast and come home with some delicious food each day, if they don’t eat it all before they get there.

INTRO TO PAINTING

Embark on a colorful journey in our Intro to Painting class! Budding artists will learn the basics of mixing colors, brush work techniques, glazing, and envisioning their own masterpieces on canvas. We will focus on learning the basics for how to use watercolor and acrylic paint. We will create works such as vibrant landscapes to abstract wonders, unleash your creativity and bring your imagination to life stroke by stroke! Join us for messy fun and bring home masterpieces to impress the whole family.

Kidokinetics is a dynamic enrichment program that introduces children to a wide variety of sports and fitness activities in a fun, non-competitive environment. Designed to boost physical health, confidence, and coordination, each session engages kids with age-appropriate games that promote teamwork, motor skill development, and a lifelong love of movement. Our mission is simple: to get kids moving and make fitness fun. Whether it’s basketball, jai alai, obstacle courses, or parachute play, Kidokinetics turns exercise into an exciting opportunity to help children grow, develop, and gain confidence through play.
