Our turkeys all come from UK farms and many are reared locally. We provide free range bronze and traditional white varieties as well as geese, ducks and a variety of English game.

Our lambs thrive on the rich natural pastures around Cannon Hall Farm, producing delicious meat with a wonderful depth of taste.

Traditional farming and butchery methods, handed down through generations, provide some of the finest quality produce you’ll taste anywhere. We’re confident that once you’ve tasted the difference you won’t want to buy your food elsewhere.

Our pigs live contented lives and produce exceptional pork. Our sows come from a breed specially developed to produce pork with tenderness, flavour and just a little more fat, that keeps meat succulent during cooking.

Our cattle come from suckler herds, spending the first year of their lives with their mothers, giving them the very best start in life. We only use breeds developed for beef production and dry age our beef for four weeks providing cuts of optimum quality, full of taste and meltingly tender.

Our master butchers make delicious sausages in more than 20 different flavours. Traditional pork is still our best seller and an ideal breakfast sausage. Our farm shop produces over a ton of sausages every week!


Christmas has always been a special time at Cannon Hall Farm. Long before we opened up to the public as a visitor attraction we were rearing turkeys ready for the festivities and selling them to locals in the village of Cawthorne. As children, our job was plucking the birds and transporting them around to the room where they were to be processed. Times were tough and there wasn’t much money around so our ancient, battered Silver Cross pram was thrown into service as a turkey carrier. With three children under four at one time, it had given solid service to Farmer Cynthia and when its days as a pram were over it was used in the farmyard for many years. It was hard, often cold work but the memories will stay with us forever. Auntie Flo’s colourful stories always had us chuckling when she finally managed to stop laughing for long enough to deliver them. Fred was a big strong fella with a huge beard

and eyes that sparkled with mischief. He lived on the moors above Halifax and would come to help at Christmas. As children, he would pretend to pluck us when we were little using the radiator as a plucking machine as we screamed with laughter. I remember queueing with my brothers shouting “Fred! Pluck me! Pluck me!” When the turkeys were sold on Christmas Eve, farmer Roger would head off for some last minute shopping and we usually ended up with a big gift to share. A kids’ snooker table, table football, or our favourite, a table tennis table that was used for many years and led to farmer Robert being ranked in the top 16 boys in Yorkshire and he along with myself representing Barnsley at junior level. Calling all elf apprentices! Do you have what it takes to be an elf this year? Come and join us for our BRAND NEW event for 2018 - enter the hallowed realms of Santa’s magical workshop where you will join the elf school and learn their top toy making tips. With plenty of singing and Christmas Spirit you’ll be led through this amazing experience by our jolly elves which ends in the toy factory where children will be able to make their own teddy to take home and keep!

Every child visiting Santa will be given a passport to the North Pole, and will make their way through our elf check in. Our diligent elves will check if children have been naughty or nice - and to make doubly sure children will have to pass through the special elf check-in scanner. They can then make their way to our magical grotto to meet Santa himself. A high quality gift is included.

INGREDIENTS • 3 ham hock • 4 bay leaf • 1 large chopped onion • 2 peeled and chopped carrots • 5 cloves • 1 orange cut in half • 10 black pepper corns • 40g whole grain mustard • 20g flat leaf parsley chopped • 8 slices of Parma ham

METHOD Place ham hocks, bay leaves, onions, carrots, cloves, orange and pepper corns in a deep pan, cover with cold water and bring to the boil. Simmer for 3-3 ½ hours until tender. Line a terrine mould with cling film, then line with the Parma ham. Once hams are cooked remove from the pan and leave to cool slightly, then while still warm take the ham off the bone and remove the skin and fat, add the parsley and mustard mix together then mix in 400ml of the ham stock. Pack the mixture into the terrine mould overlap the Parma ham to cover the mixture then cover with the cling film. Then press the terrine with a uniform weight on top overnight in a refrigerator. The terrine can be made up to four days in advance. On the day slice the terrine and serve with a good quality piccalilli and toasted brioche.

WE SPECIALISE IN HOME MADE PIES PACKED FULL OF MEAT PRODUCED HERE ON THE FARM Our party pies are the perfect option if you need to cater for a crowd without too much fuss. They are available in a variety of flavours to feed up to 12 people. We also produce party size quiches, crumbles and lasagne, taking the stress out of entertaining at those festive family events. Our large party pie (pictured) costs just £26.95 and serves 10/12.

Our smaller pie serves 6/8 and costs £20.95. Choose from chicken and mushroom, steak, meat and potato, minced steak and ale, steak and kidney and steak mushroom and Guinness. These have to be prepared in advance so call us at the farm shop on 01226 792746 to place your order.
