Black creators deserve more than visibility—they deserve equity, investment, and opportunity.

At Blavity Inc., we’ve always been committed to ensuring Black creators have a platform where their stories are told authentically and their work is properly valued. Now, we’re taking that commitment even further with the Blavity Creator Collective Fellowship—a paid program designed to remove financial barriers and provide the resources creators need to thrive.

The creator economy is projected to reach $480 billion by 2027, but shifting algorithms and traditional industry structures have made it harder for emerging creators to establish themselves. That’s why we’re launching this quarterly fellowship—to bridge the gap and ensure Black creatives have the mentorship, funding, and support to succeed.

Each quarter, a select cohort will:

✅ Receive a competitive stipend—because Black creators should be paid fairly for their talent.

✅ Gain mentorship from experienced creators and Blavity’s editorial team.

✅ Build connections with industry leaders and creative professionals.

✅ Develop high-quality, original content while maintaining creative freedom.

✅ Grow their visibility, audience, and career opportunities in the creator space.

If you’re a creator looking for an opportunity like this—or know someone who is—tag them below! Let’s keep building a more equitable and thriving creator economy.

Fellowships run from January 2-June 30, and July 1-December 31.

Few works in American history are as groundbreaking as W.E.B. Du Bois’s Black Reconstruction in America, first published in 1935. In the 90 years since its publication, the book changed the mainstream interpretation of the Reconstruction era in American history first slowly, as most historians were still wedded to the Dunning School (named after William Archibald Dunning of Columbia University), and then rapidly in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, as the triumphs of the Civil Rights and Black Power movements forced a reckoning with how American historians wrote and researched Reconstruction. In the 21st century, Black Reconstruction in America has become a tome cited widely by academics and activists alike.

On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the book, we encourage scholars to grapple with the significance and continued relevance of Du Bois’s Black Reconstruction in America. We especially welcome submissions that grapple with the intersections of race, gender, class and nationality. Writers are also welcome to submit essays on other general topics related to the period of Reconstruction. Topics include (but are not limited to) the following:

Gender in Black Reconstruction in America

Intellectual history of Black Americans during Reconstruction

International (and transnational) dimensions of Reconstruction

The impact of Reconstruction on Black intellectuals in the United States

Public memory and Reconstruction
