We had 60 attendees at this month’s Member’s Luncheon as we kicked off HistoricPreservationMonth wherePeggySiglerspokeaboutthe historicMarkPrairieSchoolRestorationatthisweek’sluncheonOur hope was to inform and inspire downtown business owners to learn about Canby’s history and historic places.PeggywasrecentlyawardedOregonHeritageExcellenceAward.Judi(Wolfer)AUS,Presidentof MarkPrairieHistoricalSocietyBoardofDirectors,accompaniedPeggyatthepresentation.TheBoardof directorsworkedwithPeggyindecision-makingandvolunteerparticipationintherestorationoftheMark Prairie Schoolhouse. Judi‘s family has a strong link to Mark Prairie throughout the late 1940’s and 1950s andalsoasadescendentoftheMark/Wolferfamily!
History is a personal passion of mine, and it ties into our TourismCommittee’s discussions around how wemightinspirepeopletovisitCanbyandhistoricalplaces,architectureandstoriesareahugepartof that!
According to Jamie Stickel, the City’s Economic Development Director, the City of Canby is currently workingonaReconnaissanceLevelSurvey(RLS)inthedowntowncoreaspartofagrantfromtheState Historic Preservation Office The RLS will be utilized as a foundational piece for future historic preservation efforts in Canby While it is something that could be utilized for a historic designation, the Cityisnotactivelypursuingahistoricdistrictatthistime
In other news, our newChamberMemberManagementSystem and website are up and running. We havehadseveralnewmembersjoininthepastweek! We had a great turnout for this month’s Good Morning Canby hosted by NW Mechanical Group!
We learned about their family-friendly workplace and the services they offer including commercial refrigeration, HVAC and plumbing installation and maintenance services which includes after-hours and emergency services as well!
We loved the collaboration with Jarboe’s Grill catering breakfast and, one of our newest members, Berni’s Barista Barn bringing the coffee!
