Time has been flying by so fast this year. We have been enjoying having warm skieswithmuchneededrainshowersinbetween!
WerecentlyreceivedconfirmationfromtheIRSthatourCanbyAreaChamber ofCommerceFoundationisofficiallya501(c)3nonprofitorganizationandwe areexcitedtobegintakingthenextstepstowardaccomplishingourmission.
Becauseofouruniquepositioninthecommunity,wesawaneed,notonlyfor up-and-comingandexistingsbusinesses,butalsoforourlocalyouth,whichwill eventuallybethecatylistinbuildingreciprocalrelationshipsoverthecomingyea Businessesarestrugglingtofindpeopletofillpositions,andourstudentprogramshaveahugeneedfor supportandjobshadowingopportunitiestogetstudentstrainedandreadytoentertheworkforce. We arealsoseeingskilldeficitsinsomeexistingworkforceassets(especiallythetrades)wherethereare gapsinknowledgeandtrainingthatwilltaketimeandfundingtobridgewhichisonepartofourgoal.
ThepurposeoftheCanbyAreaChamberofCommerceFoundationistosupportthegeneralwelfare andprosperityoftheCanbyareabusinesscommunitythroughcollaborationandsupportofworkforce education,readiness,anddevelopmentactivitieswithagoalofensuringaqualifiedpoolofcandidates existstofulfilllocalareaworkforcevacancies,andtosupportnewandexistingentrepreneursthrough educationandfinancialfundingwherepossible Youareallanintegralpartinhelpingusachivethis! Anotherwayweareworkingbehindthescenestosupportworkforcedevelopmentisbyparticipatingin schoolprograms. Asexamples,earlierthisyear,IgaveatalkatBakerPrairieMiddleSchooltostudents enrolled in their “AVID” program where I presented on “Navigating Your Future - Careers After High School”and,ourOfficeManager,AudreyTraaen,hasbeenparticipatinginmockinterviewswith Canby HighSchool’s“FutureFocus”programaswell.
TheCanbyDahliaRunhascomeunderourumbrellathisyearafterafewyears(2019-2023)underother managmentoutsideofCanby. Nowthatit’sbackinCanby,theCanbyDahliaRunwillbethemain fundraiserfortheCanbyAreaChamberofCommerceFoundation. Aportionoftheproceedsforthe CanbyDahliaRunwillgodirectlytotheschoolsthatvolunteertohelpusduringtheevent,andthe remainingproceedswillhelptofundtheFoundationanditsprograms.

We had a great turnout for this month’s “The Happy Hour” event hosted by Jarboe’s Grill! About 25 people came out on Thursday, May 16th to check out what Jarboe’s Grill had to offer and for free business networking between Chamber Members and other business people in Canby!
We learned about the long history of Jarboe’s Grill in Canby, the strong working relationship that grew into a partnership between Hank Jarboe and Travis Sauvain. This longstanding connection led to Travis’ return to Canby and the complete renovation of Jarboe’s existing building to make Jarboe’s Grill what it is today! It has a lighter, more modern feel with great food and pleasant atmosphere. The Chamber has also used their event space for meetings and networking events.
We had a few rounds of “speed networking” to get things rolling, while everyone enjoyed the food and beverages provided by Jarboe’s Grill and their hard-working staff!
Thank You to Jarboe’s Grill, Travis and his staff for hosting this month’s “The Happy Hour” event!
