Itiswithaheavyheart,andaprofoundsenseofbittersweetgratitude,thatIsharewithyoumy decisiontostepdownasCEOoftheCanbyAreaChamberofCommerce&Foundation.
ThiswasnotadecisionIarrivedateasily Forseveralmonths,I'vebeennavigatingachallenging familysituation,onethatultimatelyrequiresmyfullattention.Followingthelossofmystepfather inSeptember,mymotherhasfacedsignificanthardship,bothfinanciallyandintermsoffinding permanentandaffordablehousing
Asheronlychild,myresponsibilitytoensureherwell-beinghasbecomeparamount.After exploringeverypossiblealternative,ithasbecomeclearthatmovingoutofstateistheonlywayI canprovideherwiththecareandfinancialsecurityshewillrequire.Thiswillalsomeanleaving Oregonafternearly20years-thelongestIhaveresidedanywhere.
IsharedthisnewswiththeChamber'sBoardofDirectorsatourmeetingonMarch18,2025.

Fortheguestsatthisyear’s35thAnnualGala&Auction,itwasfullofinteractivefunwhilenavigating cluestoareallifeCanbymysterythatwerehiddenaroundthevenue.
ThisstorycametolightafterourGalaCommitteedecidedona“Mystery&Mayhem”theme.Itwas decidedtoaddsomehistorytothemystery.WiththehelpoflocalHistorian,Dr.CarolPalmer,we investigatedarobberythathappenedinthe1800'sthatresultedintheshootingdeathoflocalsaloon owner,ConradNiebert.
ThistookplaceatthebuildinglocatedonFirstand FirStreets-nowknownas“Mike’sPlace”and formerlyknowas“Rose’sTavern
Mr.Niebertwasclosingupat10:00pmwhentwo robberswearing“meshmasks”forcedtheirwayin andorderedConradtoputhishandsup. Conrad decidedtorunandmadeitthroughabackdoor whenoneoftherobbersfiredhisrevolver Theshot wentthroughthedoor,woundinghim. He eventuallysuccumbedtohiswounds.
Sadly,therobbersranoffwithnomoneyinhandandtossedtheir“mesh masks”asideastheyescapedintothenight
Whatourownresearchturnedupwasthefactthat“meshmasks”were,at thetime,ahallmarkoftheIOOF lodges(IndependentOrderofOddFellows) oftheday.
Ironically,theIOOF believesintheuniversalbrotherhoodofman,promotes personalandsocialdevelopment,andemphasizesprinciplesoffriendship, love,andtruth,aimingtoimprovethecharacterofmankindandmakethe worldabetterplace
Thefinalcluewaswithelduntiltheend oftheeveningforthewrapupand reveal
Atthecloseoftheevening,afterguests receivedtheirdessert-acustom madechocolatebar(byPuddin’River Chocolates)-withthewrapper containingalimerickunderneathwhich revealedtheanswertothemystery!
