THANK YOU, STEVEN, FOR BEING SUCH AN AMAZING RESIDENT! YOUR FRIENDLINESS AND POSITIVE ATTITUDE HAVE TRULY MADE OUR COMMUNITY BETTER.

3 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp ground ginger
1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp ground cloves
10 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
3/4 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
2/3 cup unsulphured or dark molasses
1 large egg, at room temperature
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
optional: easy cookie icing, royal icing, or cookie buttercream
Whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves.
In another bowl, cream butter, brown sugar, and molasses until smooth. Then beat in egg and vanilla.
Mix in the dry ingredients until combined — dough will be thick and slightly sticky.
Divide dough in half, wrap each portion, and chill for at least 3 hours (or overnight).
Preheat oven to 350 °F (177 °C). Roll out chilled dough to ~¼-inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut into shapes.
Place cookies 1 inch apart on lined baking sheets. Bake 8–11 minutes (depending on cookie-cutter size).
Let cool 5 min on sheet, then move to a rack to cool completely. Decorate as desired.
