PresidentsReport

Camp Little Notch is such a magical place. Our mission is our guide to providing opportunities for all people to practice living in harmony with nature, each other, and themselves. This report will provide information regarding organizational, programmatic, and financial activities and accomplishments of Friends of Camp Little Notch in the 2022 calendaryear.

Susan Rhoades continued as our Executive Director until May 2023. Under her leadership, along with our Camp Director Mandi Miller, 2022 was a very successful year. We started 2022byopeningregistrationonJanuary5withournewplatform,UltraCamp,whichallows allprogramregistrationsinthesameplace.

An Open house was offered for the first time, giving anyone, especially new incoming campers, an opportunity to visit camp with family ahead of attending. It was a beautiful day with 71 attendees.

2022 summer season we gave $18,400 camperships to 19 campers.

2022 we raised $38,512 towards our capital campaign for a current total of $186,000

We need to raise $34,000 to complete the campaign goal of $220,000.

We opened our virtual store with 2 different sessions that offered CLN merchandise. In addition, we added member's only merchandise.

We added enhanced payment options to all of our Little Green Light forms which includes Google Pay, Apple Pay and ACH transfers

We hosted a Girl Scout en

Let's not forget that wonderful evening spent at the First Annual Wishes on the Water Gala: Our first Annual Gala was held on Friday, November 4 at Longfellow’s and it was a huge success. We were joined by 108 wonderful CLN supporters, and received donations from those unable to attend. We enjoyed delicious food while being entertained with live music by Deja Vu Jazz. We held a silent auction, raffles and the much enjoyed wine pull. We had a giving tree where attendees could donate specific wish list items, or make a personal donation on one of the leaves. We also gained four new annual members.

The highlight of the evening was honoring our seven founding Board members. Without their determination, drive and courage to do something NEVER before done - purchasing and reopening a former Girl Scout camp - we would not be here to continue to run CLN as a nonprofit organization. We would not be providing the wonderful camp experience that we all loved. Those members are: Mary Diffendale, Liz Dunn, Jo Lum, Amey Maffucci, Zakk Phillips, Ellen Tuzzolo, and Lisa Winner. We would like to thank everyone for your generous support of this event which, in addition to the giving tree donations, garnered $17,710.63! We hope to continue this wonderful event for years to come.

Thank you my Friends

Camp Director Report

We discontinued the Week for Boys, in an effort to simplify the Camp Little Notch brand and do what we do best, which is offer girls a high quality camp experience

With this, we went back to running 5 full weeks of camp for girls, including a Counselorin-Training program and off-camp trips.

The trips included: an overnight weekend for CITs where they camped at Lake Durant State Campground and hiked and canoed in that local area; the Hudson Adventures trip where 8 campers railbiked alongside, and whitewater rafted down, the Hudson River; Mountain Climbers, where 4 girls summited Buck Mountain and Sleeping Beauty Mountain.

In 2022 we switched our registration platform to Ultracamp, allowing all of our registrations to be on one platform. This provided a smoother registration process that opened in January

With the change in programming, overall camper weeks decreased from 103 to 99. However, when looking at girls’ camp numbers in isolation, the girls numbers increased from 85 camper weeks to 99 camper weeks

Our summer team was fully staffed by mid-March.

We ran our first Me & My Pal Getaway Weekend and Family Camp week.

We had a second summer of successfully having no outbreaks of COVID

Governance and Nominating

In June and July of 2022, Governance and Nominating Committee worked to find board members to create a slate for the 2022-2024 board.

We gained 5 new BOD members - Christine Brooks, Andrea Dobo, Betty Fuller, Sara Fuller, and Janet Strominger.

We aided the ED in making sure our Whistleblower Policy and Record Retention and Destruction Policy were in compliance with current requirements.

The task force members met monthly and were able to accomplish the following: examining the furnace and scouring the woods for remains of the Mount Hope Village. Before the report was written, we were informed that the furnace looks more stable than it is and were advised to fence part of it and put up better warning signs

Developed an initial Tour Script and led 7 guided historic tours to the Mount Hope Blast Iron Furnace between May and September. Julie Yanson, who did her Girl Scout Gold Award on the Furnace under the supervision of Fran Plummer, led most of the tours and David Zdunczyk, a Graduate of the Folk/Museum Studies in Museum Studies and American Folk Culture from the State University of NY at Oneonta led or co-led the others.

Evaluations from 22 participants of the first three spring tours were unanimously positive with an overall rating of 4.8 on a 5-point scale. Updated the Furnace Trail Brochure and had copies printed to be placed at the trailhead.

Completed a grant application for and received a Preserve NY grant (see https://www.preservenys.org/ for $8,560. The project proposed was to complete a Conditions Assessment and Historic Structure Report on the Mount Hope Blast Iron Furnace. Janet Null of Argus Architecture & Preservation, PC, recommended by OSI, had completed a Conditions assessment in 2005 of the McIntryre furnace and a plan/design for stabilization work in 2006. Argus Architecture agreed to complete our grant project for $15,900. The Furnace Task Force raised the additional $7,350 needed. In late October 2022, Argus staff and a team of surveyors spent two days
