Botton Village Social Farm has fruit and vegetable crops and a range of animals including cows, sheep, pigs and poultry. All this is produced organically (and some even biodynamically), with no chemicals.

People are supported to get involved in all aspects of farming. Activities range from feeding the animals through to the final preparation of meat for sale.

We believe in empowering people so they can take on new challenges, this means we work in a person-centred way and have a positive risk taking approach to all our tasks, but one that maximises safety for everyone.

Opening times We run day placement sessions throughout the week.

These placements run for 50 weeks a year, Monday to Friday.

We only close at Christmas for 2 weeks.

Getting here We want everyone to be able to access the Social Farm so please speak to us about your transport needs. We can arrange transport for you, and if you travel to us by train we can pick you up and drop you off, free of charge, from Danby Train Station. Some transport may come at an additional charge, but we can discuss this at our first meeting.

Social Farms and Gardens

Camphill Village Trust is a national charity supporting adults with learning and other disabilities. We empower the people we support to build relationships and selfesteem, enabling people to be active citizens and lead lives that make sense to them.

When joining us for a day placement at the Social Farm funding will depend on the level of support you require, and will be calculated depending on your individual care package. Please speak to the Social Farm Manager for a personalised breakdown or we can discuss this with you when you come for a trial visit.

We are proud members of Social Farms and Gardens UK, a national organisation which promotes Care Farming and supports Care Farmers. We work in accordance with their Code of Practice which is independently assessed.

We have 10 communities and services across England in both rural and urban settings. Wherever our communities are located they are shaped by the people we support and driven by our passion to see everyone lead a life of opportunity.

For lunch you can bring your own or for a small extra cost you can enjoy lunch at our onsite café - Botton Coffee Bar.

Our Social Farm Manager is a Nuffield Scholar 2016 and has travelled the world to better understand Care Farming practices. This puts Botton Social Farm at the forefront of the practice.

From our Botton Village community, nestled in the idyllic North York Moors National Park, one of the ways we offer support is through our Social Farm.

What is a Social Farm?

The concept is very simple: to combine gardening and farming with support for people with a range of disabilities, dementia and mental health challenges.

Camphill Village Trust is a charity with its roots in horticulture and agriculture and we support adults to join us for regular day placement in our farms and gardens across many of our communities.

‘I really like to collect eggs, and the building work.’ Luke We also offer half day options, however transport would be in the morning or evening so additional arrangments would need to be made if transport was needed outside these times.
