Think soundproofing If your ceiling is looking a little tired, you could always give it a facelift and change its appearance completely. These days, a profusion of mouldings, panels, light fixtures, etc., are available, which will embellish a ceiling and bring it into harmony with the rest of the room. It would also be an ideal time to soundproof the ceiling and make the most of the new found peace and quiet. The first step in this project is, of course, to remove the existing drywall and plaster, exposing the ceiling struts. Then the ceiling can be insulated by blowing cellulose insulation according to the manufacturer’s instructions or by placing one layer of R-12 wool insulation between the struts. After this, 3.8 cm drywall screws can be used to attach the acoustic panels every 40 cm, placing the perforated side towards the struts.
