Affordable Recreation The Strathcona Regional District and the City of Campbell River believe that the strength of a community can often be measured by the health and wellness of the members within it. For this reason our recreation departments work together to try to eliminate as many barriers to full participation as possible.

Quality Foods – Rec Bucks This program enables Quality Foods shoppers to redeem their Quality Foods points for Rec Bucks. It’s easy to participate! Simply cash in 200,000 Quality Foods points for a $20 Rec Buck voucher which is redeemable for recreation programs, admission passes and facility rentals.

Jumpstart Ages 4-18 years Jumpstart is a community-based charitable program that helps kids in financial need participate in organized sport and recreation. To request funding for a program, complete an application form which is available at the Sportsplex or Community Centre. If you require more information regarding the program, call the Community Centre at 250-286-1161. Kidsport™ So all kids can play!

Ages 6 -18 years At Kidsport™ we believe that no child should be left on the sidelines. That’s why Kidsport™ eliminates the financial barriers to sport participation. Kidsport™ is a community-based sport charity that provides grants for Canadian children age 6 to 18 to participate in a recognized sport, led by a qualified coach. The sport must be affiliated with a member organization of Sport BC and must be a member of the Campbell River Kidsport™ organization. Grants have a cap of $200 per year, per child. Nutty 4 Nature!

3-7 years Let your little ones go nutty for nature! This camp will let them explore nature in a whole One Fish, Two Fish, new way. Your little ones will romp through Red Fish, Blue Fish the woods, play in the dirt, seek out bugs and slugs and collect treasures for the crafts 3-7 years they will create about their adventures. You know the book, now experience the Rain or shine, your little ones will be outside camp. Children will enjoy arts, crafts, story enjoying the fresh air! Catch the fun! Learn all about fish and their freshwater habitats in this fun and hands-on program sponsored by the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation and presented by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. Topics include hatchery roles and conservation, fish identification and biology, tackle and rod rigging, safety and fishing regulations, ethics and proper fish handling and an hour of hands-on fishing. All equipment is provided. All participants must wear a life jacket while fishing. (Life jackets can be supplied.) 8-18 years Come join us for a summer adventure in Musical Theatre. This year our show is “Hansel & Gretel”. For 3.5 weeks, Mon –Fri afternoons, we will rehearse and prepare a full musical theatre show. Students will learn singing, acting, choreography and will get to work with costumes, props and sets. Our professional instructors will teach students not only how to put on a show… but how to have fun doing it! Our show will run for 3 performances under the tent at Spirit Square in the heart of down town Campbell River. This versatile stage is the home of great entertainment all through the summer. Young Children’s Program 5-7 years Our Young children's program is a chance for the 'littles' in our lives to explore the fun of Musical Theatre. This program will give kids a chance to sing, act, dance, wear costumes and perform a small program for their parents. Kids will come to class and work with our professional teachers on fun musical theatre repertoire for young children. Summer Leaders In Training Program

12-18 years Summer is coming up and we are starting to look for LIT’s to help with summer programs. Are you interested in getting some work experience, building leadership skills, and gaining confidence all while having fun and playing games with kids? This program is for you! Orientation dates are for all LIT’s. Sportsplex Room 1 Thurs Jun 25 3:30-6:30pm Fri Jun 26 10am-2pm Meet and greet with summer staff (lunch provided). Complete 3 weeks of summer camp programs. • • Has worked as an LIT with us before. • Attend training workshops. • Valid first aid. • Act as a role model and mentor for kid’s in all camps. • Help mentor LIT Level 1’s in these programs. • Come prepared to participate in all actvities within camps. • Must pass a Criminal Record Check.

All applicants will be required to attend an interview and successful applicants must pay a $55 registration fee which includes oritentation, training and your LIT t-shirt. Preschool (3-5 years) Front & back float, glides, kicking on front with a buoyant object and will be able to swim 1 meter upon completion of this level. Salamander Preschool (3-5 yrs) Front & back float and recovery, front & back glide with kick; roll-over glide assisted. Swim Kids 1 Front & back float & recovery. Roll-over floats & glides; front swim of 5m. Swim Kids 2 Deep water activities; side glide with flutter kick for 3m; front swim x3 for 5m. Quadra Island Studio Tour Over 30 artists open their studios to present distinctive original work by over 35 artists offering a glimpse into the secret corners of Quadra where the artists are usually hidden away! Valley Farm & Winery Tour The Comox Valley is home to some incredible wineries and our first stop is the Blue Moon Estate Winery then we will make our way to Coastal Black Estate Winery for a tour and lunch on their outdoor patio. After lunch we will meander our way to the 40 Knots Winery on Anderton Rd. A full day exploring three of the finest wineries on the Island! Adult Arts & Crafts Drop In Pottery Studio The Campbell River Community Centre Pottery Studio is open to the public for drop in on Fridays. Previous pottery experience is required as there is no instruction provided. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome (both pay the drop in fee). Clay may be purchased for $12.50 per half bag. Get outdoors this summer with the Trailrider and a couple of friends! A TrailRider is a lightweight, onewheeled, environmentally friendly access vehicle that is manoeuvred by two ‘sherpas’ (friends/family member, one pushes one pulls). The TrailRider can take people who have a disability through virtually any terrain, from gentle walking trails to rugged mountain paths. IT’S VERY EASY TO USE! The TrailRider was purchased by the Campbell River Rick Hansen, Wheels in Motion committee and is housed at the City of Campbell River Community Centre. To book it for a day, weekend or a week, call the Community Centre office at 250-286-1161.
