WHO WE ARE Beginning in 1911, the foundation of our church ministry has always been in mobilizing and making mature followers of our Lord. In the past fifty years, since calling Manhattan Beach our home location, we have seen two worship centers built, the E-Building go up in 1999 to house our preschool program for Journey School and provide much needed space for adult Bible classes and events. In 2009 we unveiled a new 18,000 square foot educational building we now call The Harbor. And, in 2005 Journey under took a vast remodel of our sanctuary and Student Center, to better serve our growing congregation. For a select few you have called Journey your church home since the Hermosa days, for many of us you have been a part of the dynamic growth our current campus has experienced, and for others who are new to Journey you are learning of our church‘s history for the first time. It has taken all of you to make Journey of Faith the church it is today – almost 3,000 worshipers serving the body of Christ for his Kingdom. With this new rebrand our aim is to better represent how far Journey of Faith has come without forgetting where we came from. Let these brand guidelines help you maintain the heightened standards of the church that this new identity reflects.

01.1 / LOGO


THE LOGO AND LOCKUP OPTIONS The Journey of Faith logo is comprised of two elements, the logo symbol and logo type. The Logo Symbol is the cross made up of various broken geometric pieces within a solid circle. The logo symbol has a particular relationship with the Journey of Faith name. The Logo Type has been carefully designed to be readable and fresh making the emphasis on the Journey of Faith name itself, which has been further enhanced by the use of upper case letters. The typeface is JOF regular.

RECOMMENDED FORMATS ARE: .eps | .ai | .png

AT TENTION: Use of any logo other than the three pictured here runs the risk of ruining the consistency of the Journey of Faith brand.

THE GENERAL LOGO

The main logo is the logo symbol with the logo text centered directly under it. 2

THE LOGO SYMBOL

Another main version of the logo is the logo symbol sans logo text. This logo can be used on images and other visual material. 3

THE HEADER LOGO

Used mainly for stationary, the header logo is the logo symbol and the logo

text set horizontally rather than vertically.

LOGO CLEARSPACE It is important to keep the logo clear of any other graphic elements. To regulate this, an exclusion zone has been established around the logo. This exclusion zone indicates the closest any other graphic element or message can be positioned in relation to the mark of the symbol itself and the churches name – they have a fixed relationship that should never be changed in any way.

COMPUTATION To work out the clearspace take the height of the R in Journey and buffer the sides of the logo, as shown in the diagrams to the right. NOTE The vertical spacing between ‘Journey’ and ‘of faith’ is always the width of the R set at the point size of ‘of faith’.

In the first alternate option an image and the logo symbol can be combined in a clipping mask. Appropriate image usage is outlined in Section 6. 2

The logo symbol may also be used with opacity when the situation warrants it. However, never decrease opacity to lower than 70%.

THE PRIMARY FONT

PRIMARY FONT JOF

JOF: EXPLANATION AND EXAMPLES Typography plays an important role in communicating an overall tone and quality. Careful use of typography reinforces our church’s personality and ensures clarity and harmony in all Journey of Faith branding. Journey of Faith has its own custom typeface called JOF, this is our main typeface and should be used most of the time.

DESIGNER :

THE FONT JOF has little variation in stroke weight and the Regular is thicker than a normal Regular style for print design. This generates an intense color in paragraphs and headers.

CLASSIFICATION : Sans Serif

Each glyph is carefully designed with an excellent curve quality added to the first stage of the design. The typeface is balanced and manually spaced to use very few kerning pairs.

02.3 / TYPOGRAPHY AND TEXT HIERARCHY

Typographic hierarchy is another form of visual hierarchy, a sub-hierarchy per se in an overall design project. Typographic hierarchy presents lettering so that the most important words are displayed with the most impact so users can scan text for key information. Typographic hierarchy creates contrast between elements. There are a variety of ways you can create a sense of hierarchy. Here are some of the suggested layouts for Journey of Faith.

THE PRIMARY COLOR SYSTEM AND COLOR CODES Color plays an important role in the Journey of Faith identity. A palette of colors has been developed, which maintains an easy to recognize color scheme. Consistent use of these colors will contribute to the cohesive and harmonious look of the Journey of Faith brand identity across all relevant media.

COLORED IMAGES EXPLANATION: Images are responsible in transferring the values of Journey of Faith to our members or our potential members. Journey of Faith uses images in various ways including promotional material and internal and external advertising in both print and web arenas.

06.2 / LOGO/ IMAGE INTERACTIONS EXPLANATION:

When applying the logo to imagery there are several guidelines to follow. When imagery is meant to be the focal point, logo symbol should be placed in bottom right corner, opacity may be applied. Always keep in mind the color of the background image in relation to the logo color (if the background is dark use lighter colored logo and vice versa). Logos can also be applied to imagery in an interactive way as long as logo text is still legible and the logo symbol is recognizable.

06.3 / BLENDING MODES FOR IMAGES EXPLANATION: Image effects and blending modes raise the cohesion and the recognizability of a brand. Also they are able to divide content and other graphical elements that are used in layouts. In the same way they support the statement of the used images and raise application possibilities.

A4 VERTICAL GRID SYSTEM EXAMPLES

SUBURB COMPANY EXPLANATION: A grid is a structure made up of a series of intersecting straight or curved guide lines used to structure content. The grid serves as an armature on which a designer can organize graphic elements (images, glyphs, paragraphs) in a consistent, easy to absorb manner. A grid can be used to organize graphic elements in relation to a page, to other graphic elements on the page, or relation to other parts of the same graphic element or shape. Here are examples of successful grid layouts that should be used when putting together Journey of Faith print material.
