I recently wrote our Annual Report in preparation for the College’s Annual General Meeting. A number of things struck me – how busy we’ve been, the breadth of our courses and how accessible we make adult education in our area. It also struck me how the last 12 months have flown by but that’s another story. We have been quite busy, and happy to report that student numbers are up by 30% on the previous year. Our courses have proven to be popular among all demographics, which is excellent news. I am particularly proud of the volume of vocational training we have been able to provide. Our specialisation in aged and disability care means that our training is predominantly fee-free, which ensures that there are highly skilled people available to care for the most vulnerable in our community. We offer a vast breadth of courses, and it is great to see that once students find the College, they keep coming back for more - lifelong and life-wide learning. Adult education is readily accessible through a Community College, and we manage to strip away so many barriers to learning –costs, location, and time. We provide gifted trainers who can adapt their teaching to meet the needs of individuals. If you are interested, our Annual Report is available online at www.chace.org.au.

"He didn’t know where I was going each day. But once he visited the training room at the college, he started to understand." He realised Mom was learning cool stuff.
Leo is five, definitely not our usual college demographic, but mum Melanie is one of our students studying towards achieving a CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support. As a mother of six children under 13 with Leo the youngest, it was always going to be a juggling act for Melanie to study. But she had a hankering for knowledge, wanted to pursue a role in the aged care and/or disability sector, and was determined to make it work. Her kids were all on board and super supportive, but Leo, has his own challenges, and didn’t understand why he was going to preschool each day.
All that changed when our trainer, George, invited Leo to come to the college before lessons started, to see what Mum was doing. Leo was amazed. George showed him the classroom, the simulated learning, and the mannequins, and he was hooked. The admin team gave him a certificate of participation, and Leo was on board. He no longer worries about where his Mum is. He knows, and he’s very proud of her.
Our college works with students every day to create an environment that meets their learning needs. Trainers like George support all our students to ensure they achieve, helping them when it gets tough and celebrating all the little wins along the way. Our community needs welltrained elderly and disability care workers, with students like Melanie destined to make a big impact in her industry of choice.
Students like Melanie are not unique. Everyone has their hurdles as they consider vocational education. practicalities, self-doubt, career commitments, and work commitments. This is where a community college shines: small classes, flexibility, and dedication to our students success. So what are you waiting for? This could be a great time for you to attain a nationally recognised qualification.

I’m proud of the progress I've made towards my career goals! I've had previous experience in Aged Care, but I needed to update my certifications.
Luckily, I stumbled upon a brochure that showcased an inspiring course, and I knew that I had to enrol. I met some wonderful new friends who encouraged me along the way. Additionally, I had the support of some fantastic teachers from the college who are helping me complete the course. I feel grateful for their guidance and believe that by finishing this course, I'll have a wider range of options available to me in the aged care and disability sector.
