Wiyabu!

When I started as manager at the college in January 2022, it was the start of a journey. Everything was new and the language of adult education was different, so much to learn.

I think about that each time a new course starts and students of all ages and backgrounds walk into our classrooms. Just like me they have a mixture of excitement and trepidation, a desire to do well and a fear of failing. The most important thing I have learnt this year is that our community college is the most supportive learning environment you could hope for. Everybody wants you to succeed, you’re encouraged throughout your journey and every learning experience is celebrated. So no matter your circumstances, maybe this term is when you decide to learn something different.

As we welcome additional members to our team they too are starting on a learning journey. I know our community will welcome them and wish them success as they learn new skills and explore new opportunities.

It is sad to say goodbye to Sally, our VET Administrator who is leaving after 19 years to pursue personal goals. She has been such an important part of the College and my every day go to person. Her contribution has been extensive and I know we will have her number on speed dial for years to come! I would like to wish her all the best for the future and extend a heartfelt thankyou from the thousands of students who she’s helped along the way. And good luck to Mikaela who is currently on maternity leave. We wish her all the very best and can’t wait to meet the new baby.

Lots to be excited about in term two. We hope you find something that is just right for you.

On the Front Cover

Our office on Manning Street, Taree opened in July last year and we’ve been overwhelmed with the community response since that time. It’s a hive of activity with students dropping in to collect assignments, locals enrolling to participate in the latest lifestyle courses and trainers keen to offer their services to the community. We have seen a significant increase in enrolments in Taree and we look forward to continuing to provide equitable access to training and education for the Manning Valley well into the future.

You will notice a new face next time you visit our office. Dianne (pictured front cover) started with the College in March, replacing Mikaela who is currently on maternity leave. Dianne comes to us from Tuncurry and brings lots of new skills and energy to the office. She’s excited about taking on the role because it presents a new opportunity for learning and growth. Our office hours remain the same, Wednesday – Friday, 9am – 3.30pm.

Please pop in and say hello but be gentle as Dianne is new to adult education and has lots to learn. She is starting at an exciting time with many students well into their Certificate III and Certificate IV accredited courses. Enrolments for the lifestyle program are stronger than ever and we anticipate many full courses again this term.

Welcome to the College, Dianne, and good luck Mikaela. Enjoy your beautiful new baby and don’t forget to visit.

Turn your dial off Auto and get to know your DSLR camera to unleash its full potential. This course will cover using manual camera settings, composition and additional gear that will start you off on your photography journey. Please bring your DSLR, a notepad and pen. We recommend enrolling into Pete’s Photograph Editing course which is a continuation of this course, to create edited final pieces. This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

The course will cover Adobe Lightroom and corrections to exposure, contrast and white balance, shadow and highlight adjustments, sharpening and noise reduction, spot adjustments and spot removal. During this session, Pete guides students and gives individualised help.
