Wiyabu!

When I started as manager at the college in January 2022, it was the start of a journey. Everything was new and the language of adult education was different, so much to learn.

I think about that each time a new course starts and students of all ages and backgrounds walk into our classrooms. Just like me they have a mixture of excitement and trepidation, a desire to do well and a fear of failing. The most important thing I have learnt this year is that our community college is the most supportive learning environment you could hope for. Everybody wants you to succeed, you’re encouraged throughout your journey and every learning experience is celebrated. So no matter your circumstances, maybe this term is when you decide to learn something different.

As we welcome additional members to our team they too are starting on a learning journey. I know our community will welcome them and wish them success as they learn new skills and explore new opportunities.

It is sad to say goodbye to Sally, our VET Administrator who is leaving after 19 years to pursue personal goals. She has been such an important part of the College and my every day go contribution has been extensive and I know we will have her number on speed dial for years to come! I would like to wish her all the best for the future and extend a heartfelt thankyou from the thousands of students who she’s helped along the way. And good luck to Mikaela who is currently on maternity leave. We wish her all the very best and can’t wait to meet the new baby.

Lots to be excited about in term two. We hope you find something that is just right for you.

On the Front Cover

Big changes in Laurieton as we welcome in some new faces and say a fond farewell to Sally. Jennifer, who joined us last year will be moving into the VET Administrator position, job sharing with Kylie who joined the team in March. Kit, our fabulous trainee, will be looking after our lifestyle program at Laurieton including the Community Garden.

Kit started working in hospitality and whilst she acquired many great transferable skills is really excited to start her training with the College. She has brought a great energy to the office and is eager to learn as much as possible. Kit quickly realised there were many opportunities to contribute and get involved and is enjoying the challenge of studying a Certificate III in Business.

Jennifer and Kylie were born to job share. Though relatively new to adult education, Jennifer is our spreadsheet queen and the office has never been so well organized. A problem solver by nature, Jennifer is a real asset to VET, the college and our community . Kylie is new to adult education but brings some great skills and life experience. Mastering VET acronyms is a challenge but Kylie is excited to be in the

Trainer: DSLR Photography & Photograph Editing

Peter is a Graphic Designer who has many other talents such as Photography, IT and Landscape Architecture. He has qualifications and lots of experience in these different areas. Design has been a part of his life as long as he can remember but it wasn't until his 30's he realised his talent and fervour for Graphic Design specifically, redirecting his career from IT and Landscape Architecture.

For fun Peter enjoys travelling to such places as Asia and the Pacific - so much so that he sacrificed most of his income to be there! This was the catalyst for his photography passion which led him into winning prizes in several competitions.
