Wiyabu!
As we prepare for term three at your local community college, I find myself reflecting on what has been one of our busiest years so far.
We are excited to have introduced some new and exciting lifestyle courses that cater to everyone's interests. Our Community Garden at Laurieton is flourishing, and we are now managing the Community Garden at the PCYC in Taree.
In addition, we have warmly welcomed new students to our vocational education programs, offering them life-changing career opportunities.
Be sure to check out the story of Jay, featured on our front cover, who discovered a new vocational path that perfectly aligns with his lifestyle passions. Jay highlights the significance of our trainers and the unwavering support they provide to students throughout their studies. Our dedicated trainers and lifestyle tutors go above and beyond to meet the unique needs of each student, adapting their approach to ensure a positive learning experience for everyone. Our Community College truly embraces a culture of inclusivity and with a record number of students, the demand for our programs has never been higher.
Training in priority qualifications remains feefree and fully funded by the NSW and Commonwealth governments. Our collaboration with local aged and disability service providers means that students are welcomed to contribute to our communities through meaningful work opportunities.
In other news management of Camden Head Pilot Station has reverted to Crown Lands. After nearly 25 years as the Trustees, Camden Haven Community College has stepped back from the role. Crown Lands are engaging in a process to identify suitable Trustees to guide the Pilot Station through its next chapter. It has been an honor to manage the Pilot Station, maintaining the buildings and surrounds as an important part of the fabric of our community.
On the Front Cover
At just 14 years old, Jay made a bold decision, formal schooling wasn't the path for him. Despite exploring various job opportunities, his heart was drawn to the field of disability work.
Upon approaching Camden Haven Community College, Jay bravely disclosed his dyslexia and concerns about managing the coursework load.
To gauge his comfort and support, Jay enrolled in the initial 6 Units of Competency (UoCs) in the CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services. Bringing positivity to class, Jay received unwavering support from trainers, who recognised his potential and nurtured his growth, leading to his success.
Returning to the College, he completed the HLTAID Provide First Aid course, marking another milestone in his educational journey. Continuing his education, he achieved the remaining UoCs in CHC32015 to achieve a full qualification. This achievement opened doors for Jay, securing employment with a local disability service provider. Jay's thirst for knowledge didn't stop there. He seized the opportunity to pursue additional ACE Program subsidised courses while juggling his newfound career responsibilities.
Despite his busy schedule, Jay remains committed to his passions outside of work. Preferring night shifts, he still finds time to indulge in his love of surfing and the creative outlet of poetry writing. He believes that his work in disability services allows him to embody his best qualities, patience and kindness.
Jay's journey is not just one of personal triumph, but a testament to the power of perseverance and the transformative impact of education and support. Through his story, he demonstrates the potential for individuals to overcome obstacles and thrive on their chosen paths.
