2016 Marketing Calendar

From the President Dear fellow traders & professionals, The weather is bitter this month, so we shouldn’t be surprised that it will be a bit quiet on the strip. The bleak weather makes the area look a bit dreary and the empty stores look worse. We seem to be seeing the old two steps forward, one step back in vacancies however, the good news is that more are coming in and the new retailers are creating interesting new businesses that also look great. It is surprising that the prime area still has vacancies but these are large tenancies that will need to attract the big brands. Landlords seem to be getting the message that the rents need to be reduced to suit today’s market, so that is positive. Office rents are also falling in line with that. The VicRoads building has been fully leased now, as well as the old Shell head-offices, so this will help with more weekday traffic. Planning applications for more apartments near the junction have come in and

some of the apartments on Camberwell Rd have been completed with people moving in. The massive Camberwell Village [on the old Bilia Volvo site] will commence building soon. More residents nearby will add to the vibrancy of the area, particularly at weekends, so we continue to be confident of Camberwell’s business potential. We are looking forward to our major food event DIDO (Dine In Dine Out) coming up soon. As you can see in the event newspaper enclosed , it is going to be bigger, broader and busier than ever so make sure you take up the opportunities to promote your business and join in the fun. Regards, Henk Kelly-Kobes President, Camberwell Centre Association
