Summer is fully underway, and Calistoga’s Concerts in the Park are a great way to appreciate live music on Thursday evenings in Pioneer Park through mid-August. But there is a wealth of other spots in town where you can go for a bite and a drink and listen to a variety of musicians. Several tasting rooms, restaurants, and bars feature live music – from folk to jazz and more – especially on the weekends. Stop by one of these venues, relax, and enjoy the vibe. It wasn’t sadness but joy the nuns of Calistoga’s Holy Assumption Monastery were feeling Wednesday as they watched the St. Nicholas House being demolished. Joy because just three years after launching a fund-raising venture to rebuild the dilapadated, two-story home it was actually happening. “All glory to God,” exclaimed Sister Ioanna as she stood on Washington Street watching a Blakeley Construction excavator rip through See HOUSE on page 8

Ribbon cutting ceremonies next week for Provisions, Field Trip A customer waits for her order from Provisions inside the Calistoga Depot on Monday. Although the deli and wine tasting shop opened last week, owner Boisset Collection is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony this Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. to officially kick off the first of several offerings the Depot will showcase.

The long-awaited rebirth of The Calistoga Depot kicks off this Wednesday when owner Jean-Charles Boisset and team host a ribbon cutting ceremony for Provisions, a gourmet deli/grocery and wine shop that opened in the historic building last week and is already attracting lunchtime crowds. Another new Calistoga business, Field Trip – a unique plant and garden art store – has also been open for a couple of weeks now but will hold an official ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. The shop, owned by Dyanna and Andrew Lovold, was featured in the Tribune’s July 1 issue.

“We stressed over every detail, from paint colors to music,” Dyanna Lovold said. “We built tables from scratch, using reclaimed wood from our property, and spent early mornings searching for the perfect antique door, measuring and planning non-stop with our kids literally riding tricycles around our legs.” The Depot makeover, under wraps for months, continues in other parts of the large building as well as the six rail cars that sit outside to its west. Early plans had called for a a variety of different “retail experiences” on the property, including a microbrewery and spirits tasting experience. See BUSINESS on page 3
