A message from Denise Milburn, Recreation Superintendent

Greetings from Caldwell Recreation!

After the seemingly long winter, and cooler than normal spring, I am especially eager for the arrival of summer this year. We are currently gearing up for our summer kick-off with the Caldwell Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 10. You won’t want to miss the Fishing Derby, Family Color Fun Run/Walk, Chalk Art Contest, and the many activities and information provided by local vendors at Whittenberger and Rotary Pond Parks. This annual event promises to be an exciting day of free activities, and a free lunch, for kids in our community.

Heading into July, Caldwell offers more family friendly events. Join us as we celebrate Independence Day with fun for the whole family. Events include a 5K Fun Run, downtown parade, Memorial Park activities, and an amazing fireworks display at Brothers Park. The action continues in Caldwell with the Canyon County Fair, July 27-30. Moving into August, we welcome the Caldwell Night Rodeo, Idaho’s #1 Large Outdoor Rodeo. Be sure to catch a baseball game this summer, as the Sawtooth Sockeyes, a collegiate team comprised of local talent, make their debut at Wolfe Field.

Summer camps and classes for youth and adults are a great way to improve on your favorite sport, or learn a new one! Explore the many class offerings in this guide and you just may find a new favorite hobby or pastime. Perhaps you will be inspired to put together a team and join us for adult sand volleyball or softball.

As the days lengthen and grow warmer, activity in the parks and golf courses, ball fields and courts, pond and pathways, increases. We welcome the community to take advantage of the many recreational opportunities available in Caldwell. Watch for updates on the grand opening of our newest park feature, the Luby Park Pickleball Courts. A complete list of parks and amenities can be found on page 22. Remember to reserve your favorite park shelter for your summer event.

Don’t forget to register early for camps and classes, then mark your calendars so you won’t miss a class, camp, or exciting event this summer in Caldwell. Thank you for allowing Caldwell Parks & Recreation the opportunity to help you and your family find fun ways to stay active and healthy. Be safe and have a great summer!

CALDWELL MUNICIPAL POOL UPDATE

Due to accelerating costs of construction, the Caldwell Pool will remain closed through the 2024 season. We fully understand the frustration the continued closure of the pool has caused our citizens and are doing our best to address this. Funds for rehabbing the current pool were included in the 2023 budget; however, construction expenses have far outpaced anticipated costs. Our team is investigating every possible avenue to raise the funding needed with the goal to have a new and improved pool open for our citizens as soon as realistically possible. We fully understand what a valuable resource the pool is for our community.

As an alternative, until our City pool is able to reopen, swimming lessons are available at the Caldwell YMCA. The Y offers free and reduced class tuition based on income. More information can be found at: https://www.ymcatvidaho.org/facilities/fac-caldwell/

IF YOU HAVE INPUT OR QUESTIONS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REACH OUT TO THE DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION, JULI MCCOY, AT 208-455-4638 OR, JMCCOY@CITYOFCALDWELL.ORG.
