Methodology
Our methodology is driven by a strong desire to innovate in order to continually optimise our model. This clear willingness to invest in resources in order to innovate and improve our production model guides our actions, which include the following:
• Long-standing collaboration with ITEC on various projects, including the ongoing BEDEC base environmental project.
• Project to enhance the digitalisation and optimisation of our internal procedures.
• Project to reduce the company's carbon footprint.
• Project aimed at continuously improving our Corporate Responsibility Policy.
The following pages contain a brief overview of some of the innovative projects we have already implemented or are in the process of developing.
collaborations methodology
At Serom, we understand that optimum results in all projects can only be achieved by sharing knowledge and experience through close collaboration between all the stakeholders involved: owners, designers, constructors and their collaborators.
With this in mind, we encourage our team to embrace the collaborative spirit necessary to build a strong foundation for effective coordination between all the parties involved.
We have also expanded our use of tools and methodologies that facilitate this collaborative work: BIM, FINALCAD, LEAN (LPS)...
industrialisation
At Serom, we utilise 2D and 3D off-site prefabrication systems, capitalising on the advantages of industrialised construction: reduced lead times, better quality, enhanced safety and cost optimisation. However, we wanted to take this one step further and are currently immersed in a project to industrialise our production model. As this aspect is not dependent on the building design, it is the area where we can have the most impact.
During this project, particular attention is being paid to the need to integrate all the existing knowledge and experience acquired by our teams and our Technical Office into the initial study and planning phases.
lean management methodology
All our site teams have been trained at ITeC by experts in the Last Planner System. We apply the LPS methodology to all construction projects, allowing us to detect potential problems and act at source to guarantee optimum production and quality for our clients.
At Serom, we are actively committed to promoting the BIM methodology in all our projects, and our design department, technical office, and on-site teams all have technicians trained in the methodology.
Using the BIM methodology helps us centralise all the information relating to the project in a single information model created collaboratively by all the agents involved, from the development phase to execution.
finalcad
Serom utilises the Finalcad application to manage construction projects efficiently. This application allows us to work collaboratively, integrating all the actors involved in real time.
Finalcad helps us achieve the following objectives:
• Quality assurance of the finishes.
• Shorter completion dates
• Cost reduction
Corporate Social Responsibility
At Serom, we view Corporate Social Responsibility as an approach to running a business that involves managing the impact of the business's activities on its stakeholders.
We place CSR at the heart of our operations with the ultimate goal of becoming an industry benchmark for sustainability, social responsibility and respect for people and society.
environmental responsibility
At Serom, we take pride in our advanced environmental awareness. As a result, we apply policies under the parameters of sustainability and innovation that aim to reduce the environmental impact that our activity has on society.
The circular economy forms part of our culture. The corporate purpose of Picvisa, a Calaf Grup company, is the recovery and separation of waste through vision and artificial intelligence.
Currently, our offices, workshops and industrial buildings use 100% green energy supplied by another of the Group's companies: Astralcad Energia.
We have a brand dedicated to manufacturing equipment used to treat wastewater and industrial water and convert it into effluent that can be either directly reused or returned to the water cycle. In addition, the Calaf Group company Transparenta promotes efficient water management and has a pioneering project to reconnect surplus gas from wastewater treatment plants to the domestic network.
In the field of construction, we study and use innovative and more sustainable materials for building, reusing them to give them a second life and employing industrialised construction to reduce the environmental, acoustic and CO2emissions impacts generated by conventional construction.
Calaf Trenching excavates trenches using both trenchers and its own specialist machinery that minimises the environmental impact of earthworks and allows the material extracted to be reused.
We conduct assessments of the direct and indirect environmental impacts of our installations, evaluating aspects such as atmospheric emissions, waste, wastewater generation, noise generation and resource savings in order to apply the necessary environmental measures.
social responsibility
Our social responsibility encompasses many areas and is reflected in the implementation of measures intended to ensure the well-being and safety of our team and strengthen our commitment to the local area and our community.
We support the people in our organisation with their training and financial needs to enable them to adapt to the changing environment and needs of the market, as well as to promote a safe, sustainable and risk-free environment for all employees. Approximately 14,000 hours of training were provided in 2022.
We are committed to developing internal talent and to our School Project, which gives young students the opportunity to enter the world of work. In 2022, we welcomed a total of 20 interns.
Our responsibility towards people translates into the implementation of measures for the well-being of our staff: flexible remuneration adapted to each person according to their needs; employee engagement; remote working and flexible attendance at different offices depending on their place of residence; flexible working hours to reconcile work and professional life; 100% sick leave supplementation; periods of leave, psychological and emotional wellbeing support free of charge through the BH Bienestar programme for 100% of the workforce; personalised and individualised support in the event of emotional upheaval or family hardship; relocation of personnel in the different areas of the group to benefit the employee, etc.
Our Diversity Care Plan safeguards our commitment to inclusion and equal employment opportunities, regardless of age, gender, different abilities, ethnicity, origin, religion or financial circumstances.
At a local level, we support all kinds of cultural, recreational, artistic and sporting initiatives and collaborate with various non-profit organisations in activities and conferences with a social vocation.
corporate social responsibility
good governance
Being more transparent and democratic is an integral part of our good governance. That's why we strive for a values-based and purposeful leadership based on fairness, participation, pluralism, accountability, effectiveness and efficiency.
“We build differently to change the society we live in” describes much more than a simple construction method. For us, it means building sustainably, innovatively and in a way that is committed to the environment: in short, leaving a legacy that can improve and promote the well-being of people and our society.
We promote transparency among all the agents that form part of our organisation through open and honest communication. Thanks to innovative tools such as LEAN methodology, we are able to keep all the teams involved in a project informed at all times.
We implement a crime prevention model to prevent unlawful conduct. This model includes our criminal compliance policy, the ethics committee as a guarantee of the system, the anti-fraud and money laundering control policy, the conflict of interest policy, the harassment prevention protocol, etc.
We have boards of directors and management committees for each company in the Group, but in order to encourage employee participation, we also work with committees responsible for cross-cutting and strategic issues.
corporate social responsibility
innovation
Our business innovation is strictly oriented towards sustainability.
We have a team in charge of innovating and implementing new construction methods to reduce the environmental impact generated by our activity.
We implement ideas derived from employee participation in our day-to-day work and from our cross-cutting teams through a suggestion box to promote innovation in different areas of the business.
We use work methodologies(1) that allow us to manage and create the entire construction project collaboratively and centralise information to detect potential problems and errors in order to act at source.
We innovate through new industrialised construction models, which allow us to reduce emissions, execution times (thanks to off-site construction) and waste production. We promote the revaluation of the waste we generate through innovation in the circular economy.
We work with several diversified innovation partners in technology centres (Eurecat, Leitat, CVC, Gaiker and Cetim), innovation consultancies (Zabala and Innova experts), public entities (Acción, CDT and European Funds), clusters (Leather Cluster, Modacc, Waste Cluster) and private entities.
We execute itinerant and ephemeral construction projects focused on the culture and art world.
