Kuncir Sathya Viku is a Balinese visual artist who was exposed to various art performances at an early age. Despite non-direct artist inheritance, he was pushed to explore performance arts such as Balinese dance and Gamelan. These have led him to pursue a degree in Visual Communication Design at Den pasar Institute of Art in 2013 and worked as a Graphic Designer for several years until he decided to make a path of his own. During his exploration, hie became drawn to the wonders of Balinese sorcery known as ‘Rerajahan’ - a combination of symbols and texts - that most Balinese preserve as sacred. A personal heritage he thought was worth exploring and de veloping.

His research of this sacred Balinese script had led him to use the style as the base of his drawing. The artist incorporates it into a cartoon with popping colours and strange-surreal characters. He works with various mediums, where they each depict the social and personal issues through the use of satire to portray them in a comical sense.

Kuncir’s recent exhibitions include ‘Un folding the Current Ripple by Puri Art Gal lery, Titik Dua, Ubud, ‘Shades of Belief’ by Black Hand Gang, Deus Ex Machina, Canggu and ‘Rhythmic Ceramics’, Uma Seminyak, Bali.

Based in Yogyakarta, Wayan Yusa Dirgan tara is an abstract visual artist from Bali. Before embarking on his art degree, the artist discovered that he suffered from par tial colour blindness, which led him to cre ate monochrome works at the start of his practice. As he attempted to understand colours solely from reading theories and their descriptions, he formed a strong sense of imagination about how others would per ceive them. As a result, Yusa began creat ing his own interpretation of tones beyond what the eye could see – associating it with meaning and emotion.

Where we perceive tinted colours of the ocean and serendipitous pink strokes, he views them as brown and earthy pigments. Yusa’s work uses colour to manifest memo ries, stories, feelings, and our spirituality in a physical form.

The artist was a finalist at the UOB paint ing of the year, 2021, and has showcased works in Art Jakarta, Art Sphere Gallery x Artotel, Jakarta, and 1326 Gallery in Seoul, Korea.
