Theclubthrivedundertheir leadershipwithamembershipofdedicatedmemberswhostrivedto developtheirpersonalcommunicationandleadershipskillsandthat oftheirfellowtoastmasters.

Adecadelaterwhenallwasnotsailingwellfortheclubazealoustoastmaster,JohnJosephDTMalong withAnilLobo,DTMandclubcoachAlkaKumra,DTMworkedtowardsrevivingandstrengtheningthe club.TheclubsincethenbloomedintoareputedclubandundertheleadershipofRaymondPereira, DTM grew leaps and bounds in membership, quality and packed meetings, and members personal growth.TheclubhasachievededucationalgoalsyearafteryeartosecurethePresidentDistinguished Clubstatus. Theclubalsoproducedadistrictchampions:NancyVijo,DTMwastheTableTopicsand EvaluationSpeechChampioninApril2019; TMNametiAkpanwontheTableTopics Championshipin May2023andPriscillaDias,DTMwastheEvaluationChampionthesameyear.

WiththeonsetofthepandemicKuwaitChallengersClubtookthelead,beingthefirsttoconductonline virtualmeetingsinKuwait,pavingthewayforotherclubsinKuwaitandworldwide Theclubhosted Distinguished Toastmasters from around the world to conduct online training and workshops to benefit its members and toastmasters the world over. Always at the forefront to adapting to change, onceagainitpavedthewaytoHybridmeetingsinKuwaitandworldwide.Ourmembersclaimtohave developedskillsbeyondcommunicationandleadershipskills.

Celebrating our 22nd Club Anniversary coinciding with our 500th meeting was a memorable and remarkable moment for Kuwait Challengers Club. The meeting was graced with the presence of the District20DirectorMonaAloqab,DTM, ProgramQualityDirector,YasserAlQashar,DTM,ClubGrowth Director,SehamMohammed,DTM, DivisionFDirector,HebahAlnakkas,DTM, ViceChairDTAC,Wajeha Bebehani, DTM, Members and toastmasters instrumental in the revival of our club and scores of DivisionDirectors,AreaDirectors,toastmasters,guestandmembersofKuwaitChallengersClubbothin personandonline

The Executive Committee planned a traditional toastmasters meeting with prepared speeches, table topics and evaluations inviting dignitaries to address the meeting attendees in between meeting segments. A plethora of congratulatory messages, enumerating the club’s achievements and dedication to the district along with wishes of success and growth to the club resounded during the entiremeeting. Themeetingbroughtbacksweetmemoriesofachievements,challenges andcoming outvictorious.

Awards earned by the club and its members at the recently conducted DTAC were displayed and awardees were felicitated. The meeting was followed by a celebration, cutting the cake, chocolates andfewsnacks,networkingandwinningmoreheartsforKuwaitChallengersClub

I was humbly honoured by your invitation and it brought tints of great joy and sadness to my heart. It brought so much joy because Challengers is dear to my heart It was founded by Anil Lobo and I was one of his acolytes in bringing it into fruition. Of course Anil did most of the plowing and I was part of the support group by giving training to the club during its infancy and I’m so glad it is still going strong. It was always like that when new clubs were being born during the formative years of Toastmasters in Kuwait. The old timers in Kuwait were always there to give a hand when requested and they always did when a new club was being created.

Alka Kumra, DTM started off with showing us Kuwait Challengers newsletter of 2018 published by then President of the club Raymond Pereira DTM which she had found while doing some spring cleaning and coincidentally receiving the invite to attend our 22nd Club Anniversary meeting.

Inherwords: “Myassociationwiththisvibrantclubgoesbackto2016whenIbecamethearea36director Andit wasastrugglingclublike,Priscillasaid.itneededaRescueteam.Well,wedidputinourefforts.Irememberthe 1st meeting that I attended of Kuwait challenges, was in DTM Aravind’s office. When those were the members thattimeDTMAravindandDTM JohnJoseph Sotherewerejust45membersatthatpointoftime,andthey weresaying,whattodowiththisclub Howdowereviveit?

Luckily, I would say there were 2 catalysts. One was a new member that came in and brought the venue, the lovely venue that Kuwait Challengers have for its meetings and the second catalyst, I would say, is the best practices that this club members started following from then. The DTAC is the most significant event in Toastmaster calendar. It brings together members and leadersfromthedistrict(Bahrain,Kuwait,Egypt&Iraq)tonetwork,learnandshowcasethebestin publicspeaking.

For the year 2023-2024, the event was held in Kuwait at the prestigious Crown Plaza hotel over 3 days(May23rdtoMay24th).Over200memberstookpartintheeventthatsawtop-notchkeynotes, speechcontests(inEnglishandArabic),pluslotsoffunandentertainment.

KuwaitChallengerswasattheforefrontoforganizingtheevent,takingupkeyleadershiprolesto maketheeventasuccess.

Cajetan Barretto (Club Treasurer) took up the challenging role of Vice-Chair looking after Public Relations,IT,Registration,SouvenirandEducation

Priscilla Dias (Vice-President Public Relations) worked with the Souvenir team to create an amazing document that captured the essence of the event, and was the Contest Chair for the evaluationcontest.

Dinesh Kumar Pal (VP-Education) and Jamaluddin Shaik (Secretary) both provided invaluable servicesformanagingthetimingofspeeches,andasSergeantatArms.

It is said that it takes a symphony to create an orchestra. In the case of Kuwait Challengers, our membersarealwaysreadytobepartoftheleadershipsymphony.

I am immensely grateful to you for the wonderful opportunity to be a part of the 22nd anniversary and 500th meeting of Kuwait Challengers Toastmasters. It was truly an honor for me to join such a significant milestone in your club's journey I thoroughly enjoyed the meeting, which was not only productive but also fostered a positive and enriching environment. Your role as the Toastmaster of the day was commendable, and I greatly appreciate the effort you put into ensuring the smooth flow of the meeting I would also like to express my gratitude for allowing me to evaluate Toastmaster Achini's speech. RECIPE CORNE

1. Grate 2 raw carrots to fill up a 250ml glass.

2 Pour this grated carrot into a 1L/standardized pressure cooker

3. Add 1 tbsp Ghee over it.

4. Add sugar of range between 75ml to 100ml from a small tea glass.

5. Top this mixture with Diary Milk Powder/ condensed milk between 1/3 or 2/3 of the tea glass.

6 Add 2 elaichis for the best flavor

7. Close the cooker lid and heat it on high flame upto 10mins.

8. Multiple whistles might occur between 7-10 times depending on the moisture in carrots.

9. As the air escapes from the cooker, pleasant aroma will fill the room.

10 At the 10th minute, turn off the stove Manually release the pressure before opening the lid

11. Your Carrot halwa should be ready to eat as shown here.

Caution: Depending on the ingredients, yours might be done before the 10 minute mark That's when the faint burning smell will start If it does, switch off the heat, release pressure and proceed with the following. PRO TIP - Tastes excellent when served with ice cream as a topping.

OPOS - One Pot One Shot.

OPOS Carrot Halwa prepared by TM Chaithanya

RECIPE CORNER

Ingredients :

3 cups rice flour

·4 cups of coconut milk

·¾ tsp Salt

·¾ tsp turmeric

·Coconut oil

·KOKIS mold

·Curry leaves (optional)

Preparation:

1. Add the rice flour, all-purpose flour, salt, turmeric, and sugar to a large bowl and whisk to combine. Add the coconut milk and water a little at a time and whisk until a thick, smooth batter forms. Transfer a small portion of batter to a small, deep bowl where the Kokis mold can fit.

2. Heat the coconut oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium heat until you can insert a wooden chopstick into the oil and bubbles immediately start to form around it.

3. Heat the kokis mold in the hot oil for 15–20 seconds, then gently shake the mold to remove excess oil Dip the mold into the batter until the batter touches the upper rim of the mold, then immediately dip the mold with the batter into the hot oil. Fry with the mold for about 1 minute to set the shape, then lift and remove the mold and continue frying until golden yellow and crispy, about 45 seconds more. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and repeat with the remaining batter

Let the kokis cool completely before serving. Leftover kokis will keep in an airtight container.
