Finance Hey CAACURH! With the new school year, comes one of my favorite things to do (I’m not joking): budgeting for events! I’m sure that many of you would rather leave all the financial things to your treasurer or advisor, but it is important for everyone to understand where and how your organization is spending its money. Budgeting for events doesn’t have to painful, just make sure to keep these tips in mind! First determine the scale or magnitude of the event. Is it a low end social with a few people, or a massive campus wide event with hundreds or thousands of attendees? If it’s a smaller event there is no need to go rent a bouncy house for just a handful of people. However if it’s campus wide, go rent that bouncy house!

Second, try to think of the purpose of the event.

Finance If it’s simply a social for people to get to know one another, a few snacks and decorations might do the trick. Finally, the last tip is to err on the conservative side. Save some money by avoiding too much “fluff� in your events. Sure, getting a chocolate fondue machine might be super cool for a casual social, but is it really necessary? Being conservative ensures that your organization will have enough money to last the year, and it may allow for you to go all out, and even a little extra for your last event of the year!

How to Get the Most Out of Attending RLC Hey, CAACURH! RLC is almost here! I cannot wait to see you all in Baltimore, and for the experience we are about to share. Attending a Regional Leadership Conference is one of the most fulfilling ways in which we can share ideas and methods to benefit our campuses, and is one of the most visible means we have to engage with our mission during the year. Regardless of whether or not you have attended a conference before, we all have the opportunity to grow from our weekend together. Look for the following things on the next page to get the most out of your time at UMBC: I hope you all take a moment to reflect on your experience throughout the weekend, and to talk with those around you about your conference experience. The RBD and I are here to help process and support you all as we embark upon this shared journey!
