Inspired by street art styles and processes, I produce a range of abstract and expressive spray painted artworks using OSB as my canvas.

My artwork is focussed on my love for nature and capturing the smallest of details. I like to bring photographs to life in a new media, giving them a hand drawn precious quality.

Helaina creates intricate and elegant wirework wall pieces, which cross the boundaries between drawing and sculpture. Inspiration includes tea and tea drinking, old time pieces and Victorian architecture.

Work for the Slaithwaite Art Festival had a starting point in paper collage. This helps to get a flow of ideas moving. I used these collages to form the basis for a series of stitched fabric and paper pieces.

I love the little moments in life, the pockets of time that are hard to describe. The feelings of being connected, to family, friends and nature.

The good vibes. It’s these feelings I want to capture and celebrate with my art.

My inspiration at the moment is Orkney remembering the archaeology, mountains of Hoy and the birds. I love the peace and tranquility of the deserted beaches, the movement of the sea and the Hoy mountains disappearing in the mist.

Louise makes architectural and kiln formed bespoke glass for interior and exterior locations within the public and private sectors. These site specific works are wall hung, freestanding, suspended or physically integrated into the fabric of a building.

A local artist and architect specialising in landscape and figure painting. I have completed an Open College of the Arts Painting Course and have practised my landscape and figure drawing/ painting skills regularly over the last 20 years.

Mark Milnes Sculpture – Mixed Media

I paint and I also work with clay, applying the same principal of building up layers and textures to create surface interest. I try to evoke a sense of moment from the places I love to be, by responding to the environment, especially the coast and moors.

Abstract, geometric artwork, formed by repetitions of similar or identical shapes arranged in rhythmical sequences. Mark uses scrap metal and other found objects to create his unique pieces inspired by some of the greats of 20th century art.

I have recently been exploring a range of styles and media. I have surprised myself by finding how much satisfaction I get from making realistic paintings, particularly landscapes. I also enjoy making more illustrative images based on birds and lizards.

Chris Leaper produces quirky and colourful illustrations, greetings cards, limited edition prints and other merchandise. He has previously worked on children’s books and magazine illustrations. He is based in the Media Centre in Huddersfield, trading as ‘Jesmond Cat Designs’.

My paintings tend to be of natural subjects. The work on display reflects my interest in Chinese Brush painting. I enjoy the balance of the subject, chinese characters and the use of space to reflect and enhance the art work.

My work is influenced by the theoretical writings of the philosopher Michel Foucault. The work is based on the genres of landscape, portraiture and conventional artistic practices but it also engages with metaphor operating between text and image.

I am 71 years old and have been interested in Art ever since I can remember. The first painting on my wall was Turner’s “The Fighting Temeraire”, followed by the “Mona Lisa”. The first original work I bought was a lithograph by Victor Pasmore in my early 20s. You could say I have eclectic tastes, my interests now lie in abstract.

I am a graphic designer and print maker inspired by music, art and contemporary culture.

The aesthetic of my prints can vary and I’ll incorporate different styles or techniques to suit the needs of the underlying idea.

I love the spontaneity of photography but also the contempative aspect of the discipline. Any form of art involves the maker looking long and hard, otherwise it cannot speak to others, in my view.

I am a painter and Illustrator based in Linthwaite, working almost exclusively in acrylic paints on canvas. I exhibit across the UK and as far afield as the USA. Locally my paintings can be found in The Gallery in Slaithwaite and in Enjoy Art in Marsden.

Multimedia designs of animals and buildings of local interest cut into and placed on to ordnance survey maps that complement the colour and design.

My work starts with a mono print, this allows me to respond to the variables in each print taken.

Some prints lend themselves to the application of colour, mark making or mixed media materials, or all of it! I need to keep that element of the unplanned outcome in my work, I want my work to be intuitive, loose and not too tight and mono printing allows me to retain that responsive quality to my work..

Marsden based photographer, Tim Worrall, is inspired by the beauty of nature and the juxtaposition of man’s intervention within the natural environment. He captures the essence of people, and the vibrancy of outside festivals, galas and other public events.

I make collages from worsted cloth recycled from Schofield and Smith’s mill in Slaithwaite. The mill was burnt down in 2012. The patterns and colours of the cloth have a subtle beauty. They speak of the valleys and hillsides around here.

Terry Mac Carthy makes stained glass windows and other things that the light can shine through and bring some colours to the world. Not just windows but also bowls, screens, vases, mobiles, and anything else you think would work.

I make bags and wall hangings, bowls and phone cases – and anything else I can think of !

Feltmaking is fun whatever your age – children in particular enjoy the messy nature of the craft !

SLAITHWAITE REMEMBERS - Poppy making workshops.

We are going to make and display 3439 handmade poppies in the church to remember each soldier from Huddersfield who died during the First World War. Please join us and be part of this community wide project. You will be able to paint, cut, knit, crochet or draw poppies. No skills or materials are required – just enthusiasm, willingness and an interest in contributing to this project.

The Green Valley Grocer is delighted to show a digital presentation of illustrations by Dr W John Hewitt. The presentation features illustrations of local landmarks and landscapes between John’s home in Diggle and Slaithwaite. John is a daily walker and a daily drawer. Over a five year period, he has filled over fifty sketchbooks and he has not missed a day of drawing. Twenty-four of his sketchbooks have been on display during 2018 in Edinburgh’s Scottish Gallery. In previous years, his work has appeared in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

We are a group off textile artists (cloth weaving, tapestry weaving and rug hooking) who are enjoying settling into the vibrant creative scene in Slaithwaite. We look forward to meeting you over the weekend of Slaithwaite Art Festival when we will be offering “Have a Go� activities.

As well as making our own work for sale and exhibition, we offer workshops which are advertised on our facebook page.

The Clay Mill is an exciting new pottery centre run by local artist/potter Ammie Flexen. We will be celebrating our one-month birthday over the Slaithwaite Art Festival weekend and a warm welcome is extended to visitors to meet us, see the new space and have a go at a range of both free and paying activities for all ages. MoonMoth Radio

MoonMoth Radio is a new community project creating audio programmes that are broadcast on the internet as part of the Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival Activity Programme and run by Satellite Arts.

Local Moonmoth reporters will be creating and broadcasting podcasts from the arts festival from their pop-up studio at The Watershed and out and about at all the festival venues.

MoonMoth Radio will be out and about at all the Festival Venues on both Saturday and Sunday.

Jane’s love of flowers and gardening has led her to work closely with the lovely specimens that catch her eye. This has resulted in the development of some fine botanical work. She is constantly honing her skills as she works in her studio at the end of the village - Slawit Studio.

I am a printmaker inspired by the natural environment of land and seascape. From watercolour sketches and drawings made on location I develop hand-made prints, mostly multicoloured linoprints in small limited editions.

Professionally a digital interface designer, as an artist Ben Childs draws places and things in a graphic art style using an iPad. His current collection focuses on drawings of buildings and landmarks in Slaithwaite, in colour and greyscale digital ink.

My work for this exhibition will be mixed media painting of ‘Landscape and Wild Plants’.

It describes a personal journey of exploration and interpretation of the Yorkshire Landscape through seasons, weather and times of day.
