DID YOU FEEL YOURSELF CHANGE ON MONDAY? JUNE 1ST HERALDED

the start of winter, the easing of lock down restrictions and the possibility of a return to “normal” life. Your sense of excitement may well have been aroused, but it was probably another force that set the heart palpitating. There was a seismic shift in the magnetic north pole over the weekend. Earth's magnetic field is generated by molten iron in its outer core. The largest magnetic blob lurks beneath Canada, with a smaller one below Siberia. The composition and relative size of these two blobs has been changing, impacting magnetic pull. We have experienced a drift to the left recently, as Siberia gains supremacy in the magnetic tug-of-war. As a result, the magnetic north pole has slipped further away from Canada and the USA, and closer to Siberian Russia. This could be just another geographic phenomenon, like a stunning Aurora Borealis light display - or it could have wider global and geo-political ramifications. Magnets store power. If the magnetic north pole settles in Russia, we should expect a realignment of the world. Global navigation systems would be the first to change, as compass needles, GPS and Google Maps are all updated. Food and franchising could be decimated. McDonald’s burgers replaced with Pelmeni meat dumplings. The Pancake Parlour renamed and restocked as Boris’s Blinis. KFC absorbed into the KGB. And all washed down with a vodka shot and kvass. Imagine the Olympics, and the impact on global sporting supremacy. The winter games would become central, with the summer edition nothing more than off-season entertainment. How many gold medals could Australia expect to win if the top sports comprised ice hockey, figure skating, snow skiing, handball, gymnastics, wrestling and chess? No wonder your heart skipped a beat. I’m not sure if the molten iron can slide back to the right, restoring order as we know it. But it makes sense to prepare for change. Use the winter months to hone your snow-based sporting skills. Try to master the vodka martini. Get out the chessboard and practice the two move checkmate – or better still, install Chess.com on your mobile and prepare to take on Garry Kasparov, Anatoly Karpov or Deep Blue. I don’t think Trump has ever played chess – maybe that’s one of the problems. Checkers would be more his game, or perhaps Monopoly. Actually, Putin isn’t a chess player either, with wrestling his favoured pastime. Meanwhile, Xi Jinping may be trumping and checkmating them all in a game of “Go” – which takes the long game to a whole new level of mastery. Maybe “Go” is the go? Spencer Johnson showed us all how to manage change in his 1998 classic “Who Moved My Cheese?” As you get out and about this week, ponder who might be moving the magnetic chess pieces, check your navigation carefully, and chill out to the chill.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

ON THURSDAY RETROGRADE VENUS UNITES

with the Gemini Sun. This marks the start of a new Venus cycle; she shifts from being the evening star to being the morning star. For a little while she becomes invisible; as ancient people described it, she ‘is swallowed by the sun, only to be reborn seven days later’. Then approximately two weeks after her re-emergence she finally turns direct again (25 June). Interestingly this new Venus cycle comes in cosmic synchronicity with the loosening of Covid restrictions. Gemini rules social interactions and is a dualistic sign. Therefore expect huge emotional and ideological discrepancies between the people who love or hate the changes. It is a great time to meditate on what kind of society and community you want to live in. As a collective we are challenged to practice tolerance, and become aware of how we are triggered when we see others not behaving appropriately according to our belief and value systems. The stuff that makes our social fabric reinvent itself as we individually rebirth ourselves. Friday offers an opportunity to openly discuss different viewpoints and celebrate diversity, due to the grace of a Mercury/Uranus sextile and a Mercury/Chiron square. Mercury in Cancer is known for his caring communication but also for moodiness. It takes him until early August to traverse the Cancerian realms, due to a three-week retrograde detour in mid-June. He needs all this time to negotiate huge emotional tides; they spark reactivity and security issues, as well as thrifty business concerns and shrewd money-making schemes. Tensions are rising before, during and after Saturday’s Full Moon which is a lunar eclipse, visible just before sunrise. Mars in Pisces squares the Sun/Mercury conjunction and the Moon. This is the perfect recipe for emotional, inner and outer turmoil, as well as upheaval in relationships. As always the time between eclipses (solar eclipse 21/6) is a time of endings and new beginnings. A Sun/Neptune square is building (exact 11/6). It inspires creativity but can be misused for carefully crafted ‘smoke and mirrors’. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The 4 of Wands drawn is in perfect synchronicity with the lunar cycle. This is your week to wrap up loose ends, bringing one chapter in your life to completion and getting yourself ready for something new and exciting. Take a little time to acknowledge how far you have come.

h TAURUS

The 8 of Swords describes the mental agony of a mind in overload, but thinking in circles and mulling stuff over just creates more doubt. The clarity you are looking for is nowhere to be found, especially not in well-meaning advice from others. Your best bet is waiting things out just a little bit longer.

The Priestess Tarot card depicts feminine essence in her purest form. She listens, feels and intuits way beyond the obvious. She can help you to recognise the different aspects of yourself, e.g. the inner critic and the fair witness, and she nudges you to trust your deepest, benevolent core.

The Magician Tarot card is all about skill, focus and initiative to accomplish your goals. This is the week to realise your potential and trust that you can get there. Your creative power and communication skills are highlighted and you can create magical results if you believe in yourself.

a LIBRA

The Star Tarot card suggests treating yourself with the uttermost care and respect. On a mental level this means to give yourself support and back yourself up instead of heavy self-judgement. Physically it means to rest and be active in just the right measure, and spiritually, to surround yourself with uplifting and creative ideas.

The 9 of Disks indicates an enjoyable week. You may find inspiration and pleasure even when your tasks are quite mundane. You express the beauty you see in everything you encounter, and you keep refining and harmonising your environment, for the greater good of all. Your positive attitude is contagious.

j CANCER

The Hermit Tarot card is very much in agreement with the innermost feelings of Scorpio; when in doubt, retreat into your own private world until you find clarity. This may be a week for deep soul-search and contemplation, which ultimately leads to greater wisdom.

The Tower Tarot card indicates sudden changes, chaos and upheaval, which may cause quite some insecurity. With Mercury, the messenger, in your sign, try to be very conscious in your communication and avoid being dragged into arguments. Inner peace comes when you stay true to yourself; remember you don’t have to prove anything!

b SCORPIO

The 9 of Cups drawn is the wish card in the deck. Look deep into your own heart and search for your uttermost longing. When you visualise your perfect world, you can feel the joy and satisfaction it brings right now. Let this feeling carry you towards manifesting your biggest wish

The 10 of Disks symbolises the important connection between wealth and health. They are both equally necessary as foundations of long-term success and enjoyment of life. Pay great attention to both of these aspects of your wellbeing and make a commitment to maintaining a good balance.

e AQUARIUS

The 2 of Swords symbolises peace of mind, which is often hard to find in our polarised world. If you feel pressured to make an important decision, investigate why you feel so much urgency and don’t let it cloud your perspective. You have all the time in the world to seek out alternative viewpoints if you so desire.

f PISCES

The Justice Tarot card represents an awakening, and during the time when Sun and Venus start a new cycle, you might feel inspired to do the same. This week brings a chance to reinvent yourself by crafting an honest appraisal of where you are at and what your inner calling is. Use your resourcefulness to give birth to a new way of being.

DEAR KEENWA,

I recently blocked a woman on social media due to her increasingly paranoid conspiracy theory posts. I just couldn't deal with her intensity any longer. She began with benign ideas like crystals and veganism, but now she has really lost it, and posts up to fifty times a day, as well as commenting on all my friends' boards. Aggressively. The problem is, the woman is my mum. These theories have hijacked her, and me and my siblings don't like it. Even though we are local to the Shire, we can't seem to get her back. Any tips for us? We're heartbroken. Do you think its possible to get our mum back? - Daughter of the Reality

DEAR DAUGHTER OF THE REALITY,

You hear that sound? It's the sound of sweet silence when conspiracy theorists discover they're part of a conspiracy theory to use conspiracy theorists to spread disinformation via conspiracy theories.

DEAR KEENWA,

I've utilised this iso time to release everything in my crib that does not bring me joy. There are twelve bags sitting at the door (at one stage my toddler was hanging out there), but I am beginning to question my judgment. The problem is the part where I then take these much loved, releasable items somewhere that some other human can love and make treasure from (my trash). Regret and doubt, and toxic nostalgia is starting to creep in... I feel stuck in time, and I'm having second thoughts about moving forward in my life. Is the KonMarie method actually applicable in these times? - Mindfully Meddling

DEAR MINDFULLY MEDDLING,

There is a conspiracy theory floating around that this has all been one big tidying for the mind experiment. Some conscious guru set it all up to force unconscious bogans into self-development, shadow integration, and moon releasing rituals; which turns out basically due to boredom...has worked. The oppies will take donations again soon, but in the meantime your fellow humans thank you.

This week's review

TITLE: The Winner Stands Alone AUTHOR: Paulo Coelho NUMBER OF PAGES: 398 READING TIME: 6 hours 35 minutes PRICE: $24.99 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The Winner Stands Alone is a murder

/ thriller set in the world of high fashion, fame and celebrity. We follow Igor Malev, a Russian millionaire, as he demonstrates the depths of his love for his exwife – and we see why she should be very worried. At the Cannes film festival, movie directors, stars, starlets, fashion magnates, shady investors, sheikhs and models are all are caught up in Igor’s trail of violent passion and spiritual cleansing. Their past lives and mistakes are relived in flashback. Javits is an influential film distributor who appears to have mastered his trade, but actually lives off the rewards of money laundering. Maureen makes films for their art, but trades integrity for sales. The Star sits atop the tree of fame, but lives a life overtaken by his personal brand.

WHO IT'S FOR: We follow characters as they fall victim to their wants, desires and ambitions in their unbridled search for “success”. The consequent corruption has dire consequences for all. WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: Paulo Coelho is best known

for his 1988 novel The Alchemist, which has sold more than 11 million copies. The Winner Stands Alone did not reach those heights, but once again Coelho creates a modern parable to examine human nature, societies’ morals and the ethics of the elite and powerful “Superclass”.

NOTABLE QUOTES: “Experience has taught me that people only give value to a thing if they have, at some point, been uncertain as to whether or not they’ll get it.”

LOOKING FOR STAFF? WE CAN HELP!

This week's recommendation

ALBUM TITLE: Hotel California ARTIST: Eagles RELEASED: December 1976 GENRE: California Country Rock BIO: Starting out in 1971 as back-up singers for Linda

Ronstadt, Glenn Frey (RIP) and Don Henley were later joined by Bernie Leadon and Randy Meissner, and the Eagles were born. There have been a few lineup changes over the almost 50 years they have been making music together, but the core settled as Frey and Henley, with Don Felder, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit becoming welcome additions over the years.

IF YOU DON'T FIND A STAFF MEMBER WITHIN 2 WEEKS, WE WILL RUN THIRD WEEK FREE OF CHARGE BOOKING DEADLINE - MIDNIGHT MONDAY - PUBLISHED THURSDAY

To book call 0487 003 765 or email hello@byronbazaar.com

WHAT TO EXPECT: This is classic West Coast country

rock – in fact the Eagles invented this genre. Hotel California is in most top 20 lists for a reason. It’s 1976, people are getting over disco and they’re clamouring for a bit more musicianship and meat on the bone and the Eagles delivered.

WHAT WE LIKE: The duelling guitars in Hotel California

just gets better with age – and the longer, the better. New Kid in Town highlights Eagles harmonies; Wasted Time sees Henley in R&B mode, a bit husky, but still smooth; and the following Reprise is an unexpectedly lush, all-strings version. Pretty Maids All in a Row gives Joe Walsh a chance to shine, with his understated singing and harmonic guitar effects. Try and Love Again has Meissner in a rocky ballad mood. The Last Resort closes out the album, with Henley telling us “They called it Paradise - I don’t know why.”

STANDOUT TRACKS: Hotel California, Wasted Time, The Last Resort.

PERFECT FOR: Sitting back and listening in Corona

lock down (although the boys would prefer Tequila). Exquisite harmonies and unquestionable musicianship makes it an all-time favourite.

LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Jackson Browne, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Steve Winwood.
