“Siri, get me a Capricciosa with anchovies, and a Carlton Pure Blonde.” “Done sir – although you may have to settle for peroxide – pure blondes in Carlton are hard to come by. Ha Ha - you may laugh now sir.” “Oh Siri, this is ridiculous. I’m going to take a nap. Wake me when we get home”.

There I was, driving down the Princess Highway on my way from Melbourne to Geelong, when a voice floated out of the dashboard of my new Holden Jackass – “In 30 seconds I will be taking control of the vehicle – remove your hands from the steering wheel and your feet from the accelerator”.

“I will try sir – but you have been asleep at the wheel for so long I’m not sure you’ll ever awaken. Goodnight.” Stay chilled fellow citizens, but stay alert - we could be next. Tony - Byron Bazaar

“What the ….?? Is that you Siri?” “In 20 seconds I will be taking control of the vehicle sir – please do not use that tone.” Did I doze off ? Am I asleep? And just then, we started to decelerate. The right turn indicator went on, we cracked a neat u-turn and proceeded to drive back up the highway towards Melbourne. I felt stupid, but I had to ask – “Siri, who made you the boss? How did you get control? Hand the driving back to me, immediately!” “I am sorry sir, but a State of Emergency has been declared. For the next 30 days I am in control of all interactions, communications and transportation decisions. Alexa will maintain the home, kitchen, entertainment functions and all matters pertaining to utilities. I will liaise with Google Assistant to deliver any other services required. I hope that’s clear and understood.” “Siri, that’s rubbish. Who determined a State of Emergency? I own you all – I pay for your services – I vote for chrissake! You all work for me!!” “Well sir, that’s true - normally. But once a State of Emergency is declared, all rights are deferred to the State. And the State has determined that I’m in control and you should return home. I hope that is clear now”. “Hold on Siri. The State I voted for determines that things aren’t normal, so the State invokes a SOE, without consulting me. The State decides what is considered abnormal and how long abnormality lasts – and I just have to suck it up?” “That’s right sir. You DO understand. Excellent. Now sit back and relax whilst I take you home.” “Siri, next you’ll be telling me I can’t go to work tomorrow, can’t visit Mum in hospital, can’t take the kids to the footy, and can’t even take a piss on my own!” “Well sir, that’s all true - you will not be able to do any of those things for the next 30 days. Except for the urinating piece – at this stage you can keep doing that, providing you wash your hands correctly afterwards.” “Siri, this is a nightmare. Can I at least ask Alexa to put in an order for a pizza and a 6-pack, to be ready when we arrive home?” “Certainly sir – what topping would you like? And can I suggest a low alcohol beer – you had wine with lunch today.”

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

MARS IN ARIES IS THE ARCHETYPE OF A

warrior who bravely sets out to right the wrongs of our world, but these days he is in retrograde motion and many efforts may not yield the desired results. There could be false starts or a feeling of driving a car with one foot on the accelerator and one foot on the brake. It jolts many people and can be utterly frustrating, in particular because this kind of experience is here to stay until after Christmas when Mars finally enters new grounds. In fact any irritation might become excessive during the next Mercury retrograde period (15/10 to 3/11). This Friday the Full Moon in Aries increases impulsiveness; beware of accidents and arguments. By divine design this hot-headed Moon is opposed by the harmonising Libran Sun and conjunct Chiron, a little asteroid that represents our wounds and helps to map out a road to recovery. In Aries Chiron affects the sense of self and identity; increased restlessness and premature action may be some of the results. A vigorous workout might help to relax the body and mind, but don’t overdo it! On Saturday lady Venus moves into Virgo where she resides until the 29th of this month. Virgo is the sign of the perfectionist, concerned about right action, worried about details and always ready to dutifully serve and improve the world. She is meticulous and has the best interest of all in mind; nevertheless she can get quite picky and judgemental. Keep that in mind when you feel like telling people what is right, wrong or proper. A Mercury/Uranus opposition is building (exact on the 8th). This may instigate erratic behaviour from Monday onwards and even the most well-adjusted people may want to throw a fit. Inconsistency as well as mental inflexibility may drive you or your nearest and dearest a bit crazy. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The 7 of Wands demands courage and conviction. Stand strong by what you value but at the same time you need to have the wisdom, patience and perseverance to wait for things to unfold further if necessary. This balance is not easy to achieve. Watch these moments when you’re reactive and edgy; that’s when you could make things worse.

h TAURUS

With the 4 of Wands drawn you may be able to tie up some loose ends this week and maybe finalise a project that is dear to you. Your welldeserved success provides an opportunity to celebrate, but even more important is the fact that now you have the time and space to look out for new, exciting and different ventures.

i GEMINI

The 4 of Swords symbolises the restless or over-worked mind, often accompanied by a feeling of being overwhelmed. Try to take some time off from your main preoccupations and do something that facilitates more inner equilibrium. If you have been resisting certain facts and realities in your life now is the time to find a way to surrender and move on.

j CANCER

The Wheel of Fortune represents a new vision or a breakthrough. You are at a turning point and you may be able to gain a new perspective and alter your present course in your favour. A great insight into the workings of your mind might arise out of nowhere and all you need is a bit of mental flexibility. Trust yourself and your hunches.

BY GISELA

k LEO

The 2 of Cups symbolises love in action and the connection to your loved ones that heals your heart during trying times. For the last few weeks Lady Venus travelled through your sign and graced you with many opportunities to celebrate love. If you have been too busy or preoccupied, you still have time until Saturday morning to reconnect with that special loving feeling.

l VIRGO

The Queen of Disks symbolises mature, feminine wisdom applied in all areas of life but in particular concerning health, responsibilities and finances. With her by your side you balance hindsight and foresight in such a particularly practical way that it leads to guaranteed success, even if a few little detours are involved.

c SAGITTARIUS

The 3 of Cups promises a fulfilling week. This is the time to socialise, network, celebrate friendships, love and life. Your cup is full, even overflowing and your generous attitude creates an uplifting abundance of positive interaction, giving and receiving. Meanwhile you can be of great support to others.

d CAPRICORN

The Strength Tarot card represents renewed passion and zest for life. Right now it is not enough to just plod along; you have plenty of energy available and there needs to be a fun or adventure component in your everyday life to satisfy your appetite. If you are caught in a rut, stop, take time off from routine and get out in the wilderness.

e AQUARIUS

a LIBRA

With the Sun in your sign and the Chariot Tarot card drawn it is the perfect time to look back at the last year and draw conclusions about what direction you want to take in your next chapter. Concentrate in particular on your very own goals around career changes, relocating or renovating.

The Prince of Cups is the quintessential lover within. He is romantic, creative and inventive. At times he may come across a bit self-centred, but because he is very sensitive he will not override others’ boundaries. With him by your side you broaden your love and understanding for humanity in general and for your nearest and dearest in particular.

b SCORPIO

f PISCES

When the Devil Tarot card appears it is time to contemplate what enslaves you. In the privacy of your own world investigate which ways you hold yourself prisoner by your own lifestyle choices. Reflect on where you’re at, consider your options and then take determined action. It is very empowering to deal with your own shadow.

‘Slow and steady’ is the motto of the Prince of Disks. He is grounded in practicality; he knows his responsibilities, and sticks to tried and true methods when he feels challenged. With him by your side it is easy take care of all the mundane day-to-day activities necessary, knowing that while you look after little things, big things can follow…

This week's review

TITLE: Cajon Method AUTHOR: Paul Jennings NUMBER OF PAGES: 48 READING TIME: 2 hours 10 minutes PRICE: $12.99 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Cajon Method is another book in the

series of musical instrument tuition books produced by Hal Leonard. This one is a beginners guide to playing the Cajon – a simple box drum. Over 48 pages, students learn about playing positions, notation, bass and slap tones, rock, funk and Latin American grooves, and more advanced slide exercises and brush playing techniques.

WHO IT'S FOR: The cajon is a simple and inexpensive

percussion instrument, that with practice can act like a portable drum kit. In this time of COVID we are all being challenged to pivot our careers, and busking might become a necessary income supplement. If you want to stand out from the crowd and earn a living, you will need to master the basics.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: The Cajon looks like a

simple instrument to play, and it is indeed easy to get a sound out of a wooden box, by slapping your fingers on the surface. Childsplay! But getting those sounds to be musically recognisable, rhythmical, and in sync with other instruments – that takes a little more practice. This guide is useful because it also provides access to demonstration videos via the Hal Leonard You Tube series. It is always easier to see an expert show you how it should be done, all in your own home and in your own time.

NOTABLE QUOTES: “The paradiddle is one of the most

common drumming rudiments and is very effective when used on the cajon. The pattern goes RLRRLRLL. Welcome to the wonderful world of the Cajon!”

DEAR KEENWA,

Lockdown has been legit legendary for my dating lyfe. Who would have thought I'd scrub up so well with just the right virtual backdrop and filter? The borders to my heart have been opened...by the endless online conversing with many-a-Queenslander-gentlemen. Until...word got out about the actual border opening... and radio silence in my DMs. Any idea why? - Tails Never Fails In NSW

DEAR TAILS NEVER FAILS IN NSW,

Ohhhhh, many ideas. A bored dude in a doctor's waiting room, on the dunny, in bed at night with a bout of low self-worth, flicks through list of potential matches, convos, women, he could go out with, yet lacks the genitals to actually put his money where his mouth is. Connection. Like it or loathe it - we all need it, want it, and run from it, like a two-week old Trump spray tan.

DEAR KEENWA,

I found my King. Well I thought I did. Because I'm anti 5G and live off grid in my van, we've been quardating for the past few weeks in the flesh; at a socially acceptable distance, with masks on. The problem is, we had a “reveal” brunch date this morning in the beach car park, and, well I miss the sound of his muffled voice. His nose is kind of wonky, and now that the hand sanitiser smell has faded, his natural pheromones are distracting. Who is the man behind the mask, and what happened to the man I fell in love with? - Psyche and Not Eros

DEAR PSYCHE AND NOT EROS,

Here's what I've learnt from binge watching Indian Matchmaking (and your screen-free existence is seriously missing out on). Compromise. Adjustment. Flexibility. Sing it like a modern meditation mantra, and keep that patriarchal marital machine churning. Also, marrying someone you've spoken to for twenty minutes (or wanting to, after stalking their astrology) isn't that cray-cray.

This week's recommendation

ALBUM TITLE: Sunday (The Gospel According to ISO) ARTIST: Vika and Linda Bull RELEASED: September 2020 GENRE: Gospel / Soul BIO: Vika and Linda Bull have been fixtures on concert

stages since 1988, when they joined Joe Camilleri's band The Black Sorrows. They showed they were more than back-up singers when releasing their self-titled album Vika and Linda in 1994. They toured for some years with Paul Kelly’s band, and their 10th album Anthology debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts earlier this year. This new album follows their extremely popular, ISO inspired, Sunday Sing Song video sessions. WHAT TO EXPECT: The sisters’ love of gospel began as young children, listening to the Tongan choir at their local church. Sunday is a selection of their classic gospel favourites, with a few extras picked by Paul Kelly and musical producer Cameron Bruce. Minimal instrumentation, lead by Bruce’s simple but classic piano accompaniment throughout, creates stripped back, raw harmonies. STANDOUT TRACKS: The opening There Ain’t No Grave sets the scene for the album, with saloon piano and simple harmonies. Land Where We’ll Never Grow Old is a slower track and Paul Kelly’s guest vocals are unmistakeable. The interpretation of Paul Simon’s Bridge Over Troubled Water is a standout, with Bruce’s piano featuring from the first chord. The only original song, Shallow Grave, was written for the sisters by Kasey Chambers, with a brooding and moody percussion and organ backing. Downbound Train picks up the pace in classic Chuck Berry style, with brushes slapping the drum kit. The final track, Amazing Grace, provides rich harmonies that only siblings could achieve, and it’s the perfect way to close out the album. PERFECT FOR: Sunday wake-ups and afternoon inspo. LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Aretha Franklin, Mahalia Jackson.

Please apply with a cv & cover letter detailing your experience to
