THERE WAS MOVEMENT AT THE

station, for the word had got around, that the locals were out and roaming free; not to have a party, but to socialise conservatively. Woooo hooo!! On Saturday May 23rd you can loosen up with a few friends at home and tune in to local music legend Bernard Fanning and Powderfinger. They’ve reformed for a special free live-streamed concert to raise money for mental health charity Beyond Blue and music industry charity Support Act. The band will broadcast One Night Lonely on their YouTube page from 7pm on Saturday night, and you can watch them perform a range of their classic hits.

Ingredients: 1 large ripe banana mashed (1/2 cup) 2 large eggs 1 cup milk 1/4 cup olive oil 4 Weet-Bix, finely crushed 1 1/4 cups wholemeal self-raising flour 1 TSP ground cinnamon 1/2 TSP salt 1 cup pitted dates, chopped 1/2 cup sunflower seeds. Method: Preheat oven to 180°C Line two trays with baking paper Whisk banana, eggs, milk and oil in a large bowl Add crushed Weet-Bix and stir well to moisten Add flour, cinnamon, salt, dates, and seeds, and fold through Scoop heaped tablespoons of batter onto prepared tray and bake for 10 - 12 minutes, until tops of cookies are golden and firm Remove tray and let cool for 2 minutes, then move cookies to a rack to cool completely. EAT!

“HIBERNATION” IS GENERALLY USED TO DEFINE THE PERIOD AN

animal spends in a dormant state during winter, when food is in short supply. During hibernation, the animal uses its fat for energy, which has been gathered and stored over the summer and autumn dining periods. For we humans, to hibernate also means to take an extended period of remaining inactive and indoors. Unlike sleeping bears or hoarding squirrels, I have found that I tend to raid the cellar rather than top it up, and I eat more in my inactive state then when I’m active. Emerging from hibernation fatter than when I went in, I can be more grizzly than bear! Hibernation is now also used to describe what companies and businesses are expected to be doing during COVID lock down – slowing down, staying viable and protecting assets in preparation for a return to normal activity. Of course, here in the southern hemisphere we are actually just about to go into winter, so our hibernation was a little premature. In fact, it was really “aestivation”, which is what animals do to become dormant in response to bushfires, high temperatures and dry conditions – so a summer slumber and fasting period as opposed to a winter winddown. With summer over and autumn nearly done, the winter months are upon us. COVID-19 is down but not out, so a lot of businesses will need to both aestivate AND hibernate to survive. Sounds creepy! Six to nine months in such a sleepy state can begin to look like a coma, and before you know it – hello, zombie company. “Zombie Apocalypse” might be flavour of the decade at the box office, but it’s not a pretty state in the real world. Here at the Bazaar we will try to be good little squirrels, well stocked and ready to support our local businesses when they emerge from their slumber. Not so much a lean, mean, fighting machine, but more a revived and refreshed dinner party partner. Sleep well but stay alert, keep hydrated but not inebriated - and as always, stay chilled but not frozen. Tony Byron Bazaar

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

THE FLAVOUR OF THIS WEEK IS HIGHLY

idealistic and chatty but potentially deceptive! We are in the midst of a long-lasting Venus retrograde square to Neptune (exact on Thursday), which is amplified by Mercury teaming up with Venus (exact on Friday). As much as this square from Gemini to Pisces can be creative and/or romantic it may also be utterly confusing. Mixed messages or purposely crafted smoke and mirrors are everywhere, and it is truly difficult to extract the truth. Whatever issues you face right now may linger for a while or go underground, only to reappear by the end of July, just before Venus finally leaves Gemini. Retro Venus is also the time when you, out of the blue, may receive a message from a long-lost lover or friend, or maybe you are the one who can’t help but write such a message? Beware of unrequited love, which can also be a retro Venus theme. During the weekend the Gemini Sun forms an air trine to Saturn in Aquarius; it may come in handy and offer help with analysing your situation and realising your personal response-ability, which are also really important skills during the New Moon in Gemini (exact on Saturday)! It highlights mental overactivity, imagination and maybe confusion, due to a Mercury/Neptune square. On Monday a beneficial Mars/ Uranus sextile may open doors and reveal opportunity, but you must be extra careful and check all details involved before you leap forward! With Sun, Mercury and retro Venus in Gemini this is the week to connect, reconnect and network with friends, groups and family, as long as you are aware of the many-sided and often rather flexible approach to facts which comes from all quarters during this challenging time. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

The Hermit Tarot card implies that, contrary to the astro flavour of this week, you fare best in solitude! Make sure you can take time off from your normal business and make space for introspection. The answers you seek are already there, deep within and a bit of soul-search gives you all the guidance you need.

When the Tower Tarot card appears, uncertainty and chaos is the new normal. Carefully laid plans may be disrupted and there is nothing you can do about it other than surrendering to the new circumstances. This may be a humbling process but inner peace may come if you accept the wake-up call.

With the Knight of Disks drawn you are acutely aware of the prevailing uncertainty everywhere. Your normal response would be to just buckle down and persevere, but in the current climate the most important skill is to stay flexible in your reaction to all the vagueness around you, and cautious in implementing any new plans.

The Princess of Cups is gentle, nurturing and caring, not only with others but also with herself. She guides you to explore the soft and tender space deep within yourself. There you find vulnerability which must be welcomed, embraced and even shared with people you trust. Then love blossoms everywhere…

i GEMINI

The 3 of Cups promises good vibes all around you. This is the week to catch up with friends and loved ones. For the Libran spirit there is nothing more uplifting than being in the right company. Caring and sharing, giving and receiving flow easily and create a nurturing field that sustains many during these strange times.

The Emperor Tarot card symbolises personal power and leadership. The main objective is to create order out of chaos, therefore if you are in doubt, don’t say or do anything, rather dig deep for more information first. With the Sun, Mercury and retro Venus in your sign, you can’t afford to promote half-truth, or you lose your credibility.

j CANCER

The Priestess Tarot card reminds you to reconnect with your excellent intuition and inner guidance. In particular if you immerse yourself into nurturing nature, you start to hear your inner voice loud and clear. You are most receptive when you are in a state of not thinking, just being…

a LIBRA

b SCORPIO

The 2 of Cups symbolises love in action. Over a lifetime it teaches many lessons about how to connect, be vulnerable, supportive and cooperative, and eventually create quality relationships that are mutually enjoyable. Right now you have a chance to heal an old relationship wound and move towards the (love) life you want.

c SAGITTARIUS

With the 9 of Wands drawn you are unstoppable! Your energy levels are so high that others might have trouble keeping up with you! Don’t let that irritate you, this is your time to seize opportunity, tap into latent potential, move forward and feel even more inspired and invigorated. A daily physical workout is imperative.

d CAPRICORN

In the diffuse light of the Moon Tarot card things might look strange and your perception is most likely clouded and your perspective unrealistic. Therefore it is not the time to make any major decisions, in particular regarding relationships! Your imaginative energy is peaking right now and it is worthwhile funnelling your deep emotions into a creative endeavour.

e AQUARIUS

The 5 of Swords represents inner conflict and discord due to too much mental activity that winds up in negativity and maybe even unconscious self-sabotage. You might have to face old fears that you thought you had long overcome. Don’t judge it as going backwards, instead find the silver-lining in the opportunity to clear your consciousness one moment at a time…

f PISCES

The 7 of Wands indicates a challenging and potentially confronting week. Things work out best if you stand strong, maintain clear boundaries and show that you have a backbone. As you take courage and assert yourself, you teach others how you want to be treated and you earn respect.

DEAR KEENWA,

Yew, the skate parks are open! Keep it on the down low will you though Keenwa, as with the kids back at school (at least one day), its a skate mama's playground. I did have an unfortunate run-in with a ten year old this morning at Suffo. With law requiring us to continue respecting social distancing, and have only ten peeps allowed on the bowl at once, I eyed the little guy in the carpark and fanged it hard on the concrete to make it there first as user number ten. The kid obviously couldn't count, cos he let himself in anyways, until the Ranger rocked up and with my help removed him. Had the best grind until school pickup. - School of Shred

DEAR SCHOOL OF SHRED,

The advantage of being homeschooled mathematics. Thanks, Corona!

DEAR KEENWA,

Look true love to me has always been about freedom. The more there is, well the more there is. No one questions loving more than one child, so why partners? Yet I'm not feeling as at ease with my polyamorous orientation of late. (I'm from Mullumbimby). The idea of sharing bacteria with someone who has shared bacteria with someone, who has also shared bacteria with someone...well, urks me. Am I overreacting? And why did I not think of this before? - Mullumbimby Madness

DEAR MULLUMBIMBY MADNESS,

What a trip man! Other genius reinventions of the wheel that have come to light in this iso period include sneezing into your armpit instead of spraying it to any lucky passerbys (duh); and keeping your damn kids home from school when they're snotty so as not to ruin other family's work life juggle (double duh). And my personal fave from the WHO, that masturbation is a healthy self-love practice (triple duh, if you're lucky). Thank you Corona for your enlightenment.

This week's review

TITLE: Solo AUTHOR: William Boyd NUMBER OF PAGES: 322 READING TIME: 5 hours 26 minutes PRICE: $19.95 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: This James Bond 007 adventure is a continuation novel, written by William Boyd in the style of Bond’s original creator, Ian Fleming. Boyd writes in his own style, but closely follows Fleming’s characterisation of 007, rather than copying the movie versions. The novel is set in 1969, and Bond is now 45 years old. He has been sent on a solo mission to stop a civil war in Zanzarim, a small West African nation. There he meets the local MI6 contact, Efua Blessing Ogilvy-Grant, and their run-ins with the local militia lead him to a Rhodesian mercenary, Kobus Breed. When something goes horribly wrong during the mission, Bond sets off on a reckless journey of revenge. This leads him back to Washington DC, where he finds himself involved in a whole new web of horrors and intrigue. WHO IT'S FOR: This is definitely one for James Bond

fans, who can still relate to the cultural backdrop of the 1970’s. Put your PC opinions on hold, and settle in for a good old, cold war mission.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: Who doesn’t like a good spy

thriller. There is plenty of action as we get to know an old fashioned hero – intelligent, courageous, suave (when that was considered alluring), but nonetheless flawed and often ruthless. Think of a cross between Jason Bourne and Simon Templar, rather than Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible mode.

NOTABLE QUOTES: “The plan could have nothing to do with M or the service. It had to be wholly unauthorised. Bond smiled to himself in the darkness of his room. He knew what he had to do.”

ALBUM TITLE: Beautiful Friendship ARTIST: James Morrison & Jeff Clayton RELEASED: November 2019 GENRE: Jazz BIO: James Morrison was born into a musical family

in NSW in 1962. He is a much loved and awarded Australian jazz trumpeter and multi-intrumentalist. Jeff Clayton, born in the USA in 1954, is a brilliant jazz alto saxophonist. He has worked with a long list of music legends, including Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Ella Fitzgerald. The friendship between the two began in 1989, when they toured the world as members of the Philip Morris Superband, supporting greats like Ray Charles and B.B. King.

IF YOU DON'T FIND A STAFF MEMBER WITHIN 2 WEEKS, WE WILL RUN THIRD WEEK FREE OF CHARGE BOOKING DEADLINE - MIDNIGHT MONDAY - PUBLISHED THURSDAY

To book call 0487 003 765 or email hello@byronbazaar.com

WHAT TO EXPECT: For this album, Morrison and Clayton

were joined by pianist Konrad Paszkudzki and drummer Gordon Rytmeister. Brett Hirst and Phil Stack shared bass duties. The album swings into action with Beautiful Friendship, a great American songbook standard. Clayton’s alto sax soars and combines beautifully with Morrison’s cruisy trombone solos and Paszkudzki's keyboard brilliance. What follows is a mixture of outstanding jazz and swing musicianship, clever arrangements, and originals like J & J Shuffle, which was co-composed during the recording session for this album.

WHAT WE LIKE: A slow tempo version of Duke Ellington’s Don’t Get Around Much Anymore solos Clayton on alto sax and Morrison on flugelhorn. Rytmeister brings the beat out front with his drum solos on I Love You; and I Love You…Sometimes even gives us some Clayton vocals in between the sax and horns. Entrevous is brass and piano in a toe-tapping, almost bossa beat. STANDOUT TRACKS: Beautiful Friendship, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, J & J Shuffle, I Want to Be Happy. PERFECT FOR: Horns and sax create a certain late-night mood. Turn down the lights and relax with a smooth Johnnie Walker. BYRON BAZAAR
