EVERY BIG PICTURE

is made up of lots of scenes – lots of ministories. As part of my induction to Byron I have been reading some stories about the naming of this place. It may be old news, but I found it very interesting, so I am going to share with you the Instagram version. Snaphot 1: Aboard the HMS Endeavour in 1770 Captain James Cook discovers a safe anchorage, after nearly two years at sea. He names the place Cape Byron, as a nod to British explorer John Byron, who had circumnavigated the globe a few years earlier. Snaphot 2: John Byron at home in England - John takes time out from his sailing exploits to father a son, who importantly goes on to father a son of his own. Grandson George Gordon Byron - master poet and outspoken politician - is remembered now simply as Lord Byron. Snaphot 3: 22,000 years before Cook’s journeys The Arakwal Bumberlin people lived in the coastal landscape around Byron Bay. Their journeys often ended with get togethers in the important place they called “Cavanbah” - which literally translates to “meeting place”. Snaphot 4: Fast forward to Byron today - The popular haven for travellers – ancient and modern - sees two histories blended. A tribal meeting place for elders, poets, surfers, dreamers, altruists, SME’s – and of course, tourists. Lots of tourists. 30,000 residents may call the surrounding area home, but they are joined each year by over two million sightseers. The mysterious magnetic pull of Cape Byron extends way beyond its shoreline.

With Caitlin Cady

This week's mantra

I HONOUR THE EBBING TIDES AND WANING MOONS OF MY LIFE.

Last week we talked about resting. Transitioning into rest can be tricky, so I wrote something for those times when we need a little help landing. It's part permission slip, part prayer. A way to invite yourself into the energy of rest. Cut it out, read it out, rest, repeat. This is how I honour the ebbing tides and waning moons of my life: By sinking in when my body whispers “go slow.” By getting quiet when I can’t hear clearly. By tending carefully to the coals and feeding them something fresh to transform when it feels like the fire is burning low. By planting my feet firmly on the ground when fear wants me to run in circles. By wrapping myself in layers of trust when uncertainty has left me shaky and shivering. By smoothing myself out with a firm and gentle hand when my mind feels creased and crumpled with shadows and sharp edges. By breathing into my belly so my heart and mind can return to a rhythm of coherence when confusion has taken hold. By attending to just one thing at a time when my attention has become divided and my thoughts have become divisive. By letting myself be swept up in the arms of play when productivity has outstayed her welcome. This is how I trust myself. By turning up the volume on my inner wisdom. This is how I take back my power and rebel against the artificial currents of urgency and importance. By following the intelligence of my own energy and emotions. This is how I expand my capacity. By contracting into a smaller shape from time to time. This is how I harness the dynamism of my potential; the voltage, the vigor, the virtue. By conserving energy when it’s called for. This is how I nourish myself and create a fruitful future. By letting myself not just tolerate the quiet, the dark, the rest, but relish it. So I can rise again. With more potency, presence and self-possession.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

THURSDAY MORNING OFFERS A FLEETING

grand earth trine involving the Moon, Mars and Pluto. Here is an opportunity to get lots done, in minimal time and before lunch! The rest of Thursday and Friday are also very potent for getting things organised and there is a powerful drive for accomplishment. What a great time to advance a project! Saturn, the planet that represents duty and responsibility is turning direct, so maybe the big grind is coming to an end and results will be visible soon. The weekend is dominated by a square between Jupiter in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces. This energy is as opposite to the previous days as possible! Now it is time to relax, be creative, and nurture yourself in nature. Hopes and dreams you hatch right now might end up being castles in the air though. The higher you fly, the more you’ll land with a thump back on earth on Monday, due to a Mercury/Saturn square which could feel very limiting. Reality might be assessed by carefully balancing the highs and lows of the last few days. Also on Monday the Sun moves into tolerant and diplomatic Libra, where Mercury and Venus already reside. Mid-week we are graced with an amicable Mercury/ Jupiter sextile; this can be a very social and stimulating time. It is great for getting out and about and also for business meetings or negotiations. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

The 9 of Swords indicates the dangers of heavy selfjudgement and great regret. If you feel anxious and tense, try to not compound your problems by falling into endless worries and ‘whatif’ scenarios. Relax as much as you can and give thanks for the things that work out in your life. That makes you feel better and attracts more constructive thoughts…

h TAURUS

With the 10 of Cups drawn you may have quite some epiphanies this week! You feel on top of the world, delighted with emotional contentment and satisfaction. Now you might have only one wish left: ‘Make the world stop and stay in this beautiful space forever after.’

i GEMINI

The Wheel of Fortune often represents a turning point, a time when you can take a chance or a risk and advance yourself in your chosen direction. You may need to stay very flexible in your approach and keep focusing on your bigger vision, which is quite natural for the Twins anyway!

j CANCER

The Prince of Wands is adventurous, passionate and can be very charismatic. Therefore he often gets what he wants and doors open to him. He backs you up in taking risks and asking for what you want. His confidence is contagious and you might surprise yourself…

BY GISELA

k LEO

After quite some challenging times lately, the 2 of Swords appears and promises peace of mind and more inner equilibrium. Maybe you had to make a tough decision but now you can rest assured that you did the best you could. Don’t fall into the habit of mulling things all over again.

l VIRGO

The 6 of Swords offers you a new perspective that includes the bigger picture. It helps you to integrate what you learned during the past month, when most of the inner planets traversed your sign. Now is the time to move away from who you used to be towards who you want to be…

a LIBRA

No wonder that the Hanged Man Tarot card appears! With Mercury, Venus and (since Monday) the Sun in your sign, you pay so much attention to everyone around you, trying to keep things lovely and harmonious, that you have a hard time getting in touch with your own needs! This can be quite paralysing; try to pause, retreat and connect with yourself.

b SCORPIO

The 6 of Wands promises a successful week. You find contentment within, and get on with others. The people you like to impress in particular, are giving you the thumbs up. This may be an important time to showcase and advance a business or project.

c SAGITTARIUS

When the Tower Tarot card appears it is time to surrender to what is, rather than keeping up a struggle that you can’t win. Maybe you have been hanging on to old visions and structures in your life that you actually have already outgrown? Inner peace can come when you release old conditioning and return to your essential, authentic core.

d CAPRICORN

The Prince of Cups guides you to experience your lover within. You have a strong desire nature, but often times you try to control it and employ it to drive you towards the fulfilment of your ambitions. Now is the time to let go and enjoy life and all the little gifts it offers to you.

e AQUARIUS

With the Priestess Tarot card drawn you are nudged towards spiritual leadership. Other people might rely on your guidance and you take the task of inspiring them seriously. You must make sure though, that you have enough time for yourself to recharge your batteries and keep your inner balance.

f PISCES

With the 5 of Disks drawn time drags on and you might feel like you are treading water. Mentally you might get lost in the past and when you do think of the future you tend to worry and get caught up in negative scenarios. Try to stay in the present as much as possible and look around you for clues about what is really going on.

DEAR KEENWA, I always seem to attract the unavailable guy. They all say they 'love me,' but the last one lost his licence. The one before that had a family tragedy and had to leave the country, and the one before that hung around physically (in fact waaaay too much) but was more available to ganja than me, and was checked out emotionally. I'm keen to break this pattern, if you can tell me what I'm missing?. - Here I Am (I think)

DEAR HERE I AM (I THINK), I guess you could start by reflecting on where you are unavailable for yourself? Vibe attracts tribe remember! If you're walking out in the world unavailabling yourself by not doing the things you love, and putting others first all the time that's what you'll be dished out. Say NO more, and watch the peeps that can be there for you swoop in like its magpie season.

DEAR KEENWA, My birthday is coming up, and I'm wondering if there is a service for single parents that can be used to support our children, in celebrating us? It seems like a mega developmental fail, if there are no elders to show kids how to cherish their parent. As well as it being extremely embarrassing to buy my own present, make my own cake, and blow out the candles I bought and lit. I reckon this service could also do head lice treatments whilst they're at it, and perhaps even relieve some of mummy's stress, without needing any emotional labour back. Medicare rebatable if possible. Thoughts? Sacred Service

DEAR SACRED SERVICE, I think outside of Byron they call it family. But since we are all so estranged from ours (they just can't seem to stop shaking their heads over how much rent we pay up here) and all so...single, we should get a birthday buddy system. Still at a loss as how to advise on the nits though.

"IT'S ALL RAINBOIWS AND WATER WITH @THERAINBOWSHOPBYROMELONS NBAY"

This week's recommendation ALBUM TITLE: Lover ARTIST: Taylor Swift RELEASED: August 2019 GENRE: Pop

"HAZY SUNSETS WITH @STELLAR.TEESHIRTS"

BIO: A local musician taught 12-year-old Tay to play guitar before she began a country music career at 14 in Nashville. Fast forward 15ish years of fame, critical acclaim, sell-out tours, award spars with Kanye, political maneuvers, philanthropy and a genre switch from country cowgirl to pop queen. Rumour has it she recently became engaged or secretly married just before releasing Lover. To be or not to be, the truth is in the music. WHAT TO EXPECT: Pop with a capital - P, O, P and a big L, O, V, E. It is a fun record with a lil but of country.

WHAT WE LIKE: Lyrics that are just so in tune with human nature. The very relatable opening track I Forgot You Existed goes I forgot that you existed / And I thought that it would kill me, but it didn't / And it was so nice / So peaceful and quiet. We know Tay gets us, so we get Tay. Her country storytelling style, and a collab w/Dixie Chicks may be all that is left of the slide guitar roots and cowboy boots. The full use of natural and electronic instruments is curated well across 18 tracks. You might just fall for Lover. STANDOUT TRACKS:

- I Forgot You Existed - Lover - Paper Rings

"WHEN WE SAID TAG A MATE, THIS ISN'T WHA T WE HAD IN MIND WITH @JULIET.ROMEO.ROMEO

PERFECT FOR: Brides: walking down the aisle or a

first dance with the hubby. Grooms: keeping up to speed with the opposition playbook. Couples: being reminder that we are on the same team in relationships.

LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Justin Timberlake, Lorde, Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus.

BOOKS FOR Y

This week's review

TITLE: Three Women AUTHOR: Lisa Taddeo NUMBER OF PAGES: 320 EST. READ TIME: 6 hours 27 minutes PRICE: $30.00 WHAT'S IT ABOUT? In an effort to understand the

intricacies of female desire Lisa Taddeo set out to follow three women spanning over a decade. Recording their stories of love, sex and interactions behind closed doors.

WHO IT'S FOR: All women. WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: Lisa Taddeo doesn’t over

explain or overseason her novel with flowery words. She has taken the lives of three regular women and given their stories of sexuality, love and friendship the space to be heard. And the sound is deafening. In the best way. Taddeo has made a piece of investigative writing read like a work of exquisite fiction. These tales of togetherness and loneliness. All true. It’s hard not to draw parallels between the feelings of these women and ones you may have felt before. Each of the ladies navigating a world where our roles and freedoms are ever changing. Page turning, heart stopping, infuriating, sexy, raw, jaw dropping and honest. My book of the year (so far!)

NOTABLE QUOTE: "It's the nuances of desire that hold

the truth of who we are at our rawest moments. I set out to register the heat and sting of female want so that men and other women might more easily comprehend before they condemn. Because it's the quotidian moments of our lives that will go on forever, that will tell us who we were, who our neighbors and our mothers were, when we were too diligent in thinking they were nothing like us. This is the story of three women." This week's review written by Jessie Hilton @jessieahilton

Sophie Marsh FUTURE DREAMERS - @SOPHIE_MARSH

WHAT DOES WORKING FOR FUTURE DREAMERS – GIRLS CLUB MEAN FOR YOU? The expansiveness of the organisation is something that inspires me in countless ways. We are giving young women the space to grow alongside each other to share, learn and enjoy this world together. It’s a conversation we are starting. WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOUNG GIRLS TO HAVE A RESOURCE LIKE FD? The clubhouse creates security. I’ve seen the impact the space has had on both the mentors and the girls. We are the everyday fight for women to have more access to deserved opportunities and self-belief. We’re asking girls how they want to see themselves. They get to define everything from this point- relationships, passions, purpose… action. HOW DOES THIS WORK INSPIRE YOU IN YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE? I’m more courageous in sharing my stories and coaxing them out of others. My capacity to hold and share love widens each week and I’m more mindful of honouring people for their time and gifts. WHAT CHANGE DO YOU HOPE TO ENCOURAGE? I hope to see more people holding space for one another; more young people wanting to re-engage with the things that are important to them and knowing how powerful they are. We have a lot to fight for in this world, and we’ve got every resource we’ve ever needed to make the change. AS A PASSIONATE AND ASPIRING WRITER, WHERE DO YOU FIND THE MOST FUEL FOR YOUR WRITING ENDEAVOURS? My writing tends to come from a place of rebirth and witnessing how my voice changes as I mature. As an environmental thing, I’ve been exploring the microscopic properties of healing for a while. Though, I’ll always love exploring darkness and light as cohabitants, and revealing depth. Future Dreamers is a place for all girls 12+ > 30. @futuredreamers
