Acclaimed North Louisiana writer Teddy Allen was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame on June inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame on June 25, 2022, as a recipient of the 2022 Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism recipients were chosen based on nominees’ professional accomplishments in local, state, regional, and even nation circles, with leadership in the LSWA as a beneficial factor. Three decades of work in the profession is a requirement looked at by the 40-member Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame selection committee. Distinguished Service Award winners are inducted in the Hall of Fame along with the 455 current athletes, sports journalists, coach-with the 455 current athletes, sports journalists, coaches, and administrators that have been chosen since 1959. Only 69 leading figures in Louisiana’s sports media have been honored with the award since its inception in 1982.
Allen earned his bachelor and masters degrees from Louisiana Tech University. He worked for the Shreveport Journal and The Times in Shreveport, and for the Times-Picayune in New Orleans. He was previously a featured columnist for Gannett’s north Louisiana papers over the last three decades. He returned to Louisiana Tech in 2008 as a writer and editor in the university communications department. He has done radio broadcast munications department. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates about 93 million adults in the United States are affected by obesity and that number continues to increase. The disease of obesity increases the risks of morbidity and mortality because of the diseases and conditions that are commonly associated with it, such as type II diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, among other health risks. Metabolic and bariatric surgery has proven to be effective in the reduction of comorbid conditions related to obesity.
LSUS CYBERSECURITY PROGRAM RANKED AS ONE OF THE MOST AFFORDABLE IN THE NATION
LSU Shreveport’s cybersecurity program was featured in University Headquarter’s list of Top 100 Best Affordable Cybersecurity Programs. LSUS was the only Louisiana-based university to earn a place in the top twenty schools featured in the ranking. This is the second year in a row that LSUS’s cybersecurity program was featured in University HQ’s “Top 100” list.
LSUS’ Director of Sports Medicine, Meghan Neffendorf, has been named the Red River Athletic Conference Co-Athletic Trainer of the Year. The award was voted upon by all Ath-letic Trainer of the Year. BRF has opened a state-of-the-art new $19.5 million, 23,000 square foot Center for Molecular Imaging and Therapy (CMIT). The center is one of only a handful of similar centers in the nation. The CMIT project, which included construction of the facility and acquisition of equipment, was supported by BRF, the State of Louisiana, state and national organizations, community groups and private donors. CMIT’s three key services include: • Clinical services enabling patients to receive the highest quality molecular imaging and therapy care available; • Manufacturing services providing hospitals and research centers with the most up-to-date radiopharmaceuticals available; and • Basic and preclinical research capabilities and services including personnel and equipment to develop new radiopharmaceuticals and support collaborations with higher education institutions and pharmaceutical companies.

HISTORIC NURSING AFFILIATE AGREEMENT SIGNED
On June 23, officials from Southern University and A&M College (SUBR) and Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) signed an affiliation agreement between the respective nursing and allied health programs of both institutions to implement a 100% online RN-BSN program. The partnership will allow graduates of SUSLA’s registered nurse (RN) program to continue their education online toward earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) at SUBR.
