One of the students' issues they face in this society, is school uniforms and what they should and should not wear. Do you think that they should be allowed to wear street clothes or wear the school uniforms that the school provides? There some various point of views that are presented, plus there is a definition of what a school uniform is just in case some people don't know. A school uniform is basically a shirt (school choice) which some have collars on them, a black belt, pants like khakis or a different color that the school decided on, sometimes a jacket or blazer of the school choice and shoes of the student choice. All students must have their shirts tucked in at all time...show more content...
By doing this, do it really allow the officials to pick out the good from the bad or should I say the "troublemakers?" Many parents and schools think that wearing a school uniform could and would keep the students safe or in a safer environment more so people think opposite. So tell me what do you think? Now, I believe this is what the schools is thinking instead of asking the students how they feel about it. Leaving out 50 uniforms. Of course, we all know that in the USA, I am guessing around 160–180,000 students % of the students who are against wearing uniforms, has an opinion as well as the other 50% who are with wearing miss class or school every single day due to the fact of "FEAR" of being harmed or attacked by other students or other kids. "The U.S. Dept. of Education maintains that the mandatory use of standardized dress reduces violence within the school."

One of the disagreement on the issue really involves ATTITUDES towards wearing uniforms. Parents has a huge impact/ role on the topic that every student disagree with as well. This topic becomes more controversial because 50% of the parents wants their kids to wear school uniforms and the other half of the 50% wants their kids to wear clothes they brought. So let's talk about the parents who are in favor of their kids wearing uniforms. 1) Parents don't want the phone calls from
In the middle of the school year, two new students walk through the doors of their new high school. The first student walks into the school with a worn out book bag, tarnished shoes, and noticeably older clothing, and is automatically judged by his peers on his wardrobe. The next student walks into the school wearing all of the latest name brands, expensive jewelry, and immediately she is judged as well. The student with the visibly "higher maintenance" wardrobe is instantly approached by another student who is dressed in the same type of apparel. The student with the visibly older clothing is never approached by another student and is forced to bear the challenge of a new school on his own. Too many times in public school systems,...show more content...
Enforcing school uniforms contribute to success in many school systems by reducing the crime rate in schools and ultimately reducing bullying, which in turn affect a student's learning environment. Dress code is used as a tool to reduce bullying rates that relate to a student's dress. At the 1996 State of the Union, President Clinton stated: I challenge all our schools to teach character education, to teach good values and good citizenship. And if it means that teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear school uniforms (The American Presidency Project).
Throughout the nation, students are bullied in school because their wardrobe is not considered culturally as being "in–style." Many students simply come from families that can not afford to finance their child's wishes of obtaining what is considered the latest fashion. Students should not have to feel as if they are inadequate or not as important as other students based on their families' income and ability to purchase a certain type of clothing. Students should ultimately be judged on their character and not by their clothing. An important benefit of enforcing school uniforms is the reduction of crime in

School Uniforms: A Non–Military Proposal for Sweden's Students The word school uniform has negative connotations for many people. It makes them think of war, of soldier, of death, brainwashed airheads doing exactly the same as everybody else. It makes them think of reformed, collectivized groups of people with no personal identity. There are, however, reasons for the existence of the uniform; one of them being, as the name suggests, the purpose of uniting. At schools all around the world theschool uniform is a key factor to the success of the students. Sweden currently does not apply the rule of a school dress code, but there is a definitive need for one. School uniforms are...show more content... And if it means that teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then public schools should be able to require school uniforms" (Clinton, 1996). Studies have shown that when students are wearing uniforms there is a big difference in their behavior and their academic results in school. In his essay (Skiba, 2000) Skiba presents evidence from different studies (Cohn, 1996 and Loesch, 1995) suggesting that when children wear a uniform to school they are less likely to be associated with a gang and the dangers of walking pass the wrong neighborhood on the way to and from school is therefor eliminated. Loesch also points out that the dress code in schools help "establish a calm, businesslike school climate." (Loesch, 1995). In the Long Beach School District all forms of violence, beatings, hooliganism and other serious misbehaving offenses have almost disappeared since they decided all students have to wear uniform. (Cohn, 1996.) Another good example of how students seem to be thinking is this study where almost three hundred students were asked to describe pictures of people dressed in different clothes. Nearly all the students participating in the survey described the uniform–clad illustrations as "better behaved" and "more academically
