• Here is a little different deal! This heifer is sired by our Munson son and out of the grandmother of the other lot we are offering. What a cow family! Check out this pedigree with sires like Revolution, Munson, 719T, and P606. This heifer is destined to follow in her mother’s footsteps and should offer so much for her new owner as she becomes a positive influence in their cowherd for a very long time.

• A super high-quality female out of Ramsey Showtime Compass that provides a little different genetic package and one that seems to work for this powerful female.
• This heifer is a phenotypical spitting image of her mother, with a ton of rib shape and being well structured. Her dam has served as a foundation female for our herd and is one of our favorites. We plan to have her in the operation for years to come, and that is the only reason we are offering this promising female.

This year’s SCHA Hall of Fame inductee is Tommy Coley. Tommy is a Tennessee native with a rich history in the Hereford breed. Tommy attended the first Coley Hereford production sale at 2 months of age. He spent his youth working on the farm, playing football and showing Herefords with his family. After graduation, he went to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was a member of Block and Bridle, the Livestock Judging Team and Farmhouse Fraternity.
While at UT, Tommy met and married Sue Smith in 1973. After leaving UT, Tommy and Sue moved to Ohio to manage Treeline Herefords. Their next move was back to West Tennessee to Sue’s Family Farm in Jackson. Their son Matt and daughter Kristi were born there. From Jackson, they moved to Ashland City to manage Forman and Burris Herefords. After the split between Forman and Burris, they moved to Pembroke, Kentucky to establish Forman Herefords, where they raised and showed several Champions, including a Champion and Reserve Champion Heifer in Denver.
After Forman’s, the Family went to Rockford, Illinois to manage Perks Ranch. Tommy designed the current facility, laying the groundwork to have a successful program with top bull and heifer sales and many National Champions, establishing Perks as a nationally recognized Hereford Breeder.
Sadly, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer, Sue passed away in December of 1996. Tommy and the kids had to go on alone until he met a single Mom named Kim Johnson. Kim had 3 children, Erin, Shea, and Will. Both families became one in 1998 and created a special bond. All the kids were athletic and loved showing cattle with the Perks children, Wade and Anna. Tommy coached the kids in softball, baseball, basketball and football. They had a kid in high school for 11 years.
Tommy and Kim purchased several Red Angus from the Ranch and moved them along with their Herefords and the family to Birmingham, Iowa after Cam Perks passed away. During this time Tommy had the honor of judging several National Shows, including Louisville,
Houston, San Antonio, Ft. Worth, Denver.
Then, 14 years ago, the job he had wanted since he was a little boy became available. Tommy was hired as the Southeastern Regional Fieldman. They found a home in Sewanee, Tennessee, a location that is a gateway to all 8 states Tommy travels. This was key, as he has been on the road 260 days a year.
Kim has been by his side, providing support and traveling with him when her schedule allows. Kim and Tommy hosted Hereford on the Mountain for many years, welcoming many Hereford friends to their home. Tommy is thankful to have served as the Southeastern Regional Fieldman. His job with the Association and the wonderful people he calls his best friends have been a blessing that has sustained him and his family. Tommy plans to retire after the Junior National this July to spend more time at home and visit with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tommy has spent many hours and days working with producers to help them market their animals. His persistence and dedication have improved the quality and quantity of consignment and production sales across the southeast. His work mentoring of producers and juniors has been greatly appreciated. Thank you for all you have done and enjoy your retirement!
The 5th Annual Joint SCHA & RAAC 2025 Sale is dedicated to Jerry Simpson of Union County, North Carolina. Jerry spent 34 years as an Extension professional in North Carolina. A 1976 graduate of NC State, he returned to Union County. He began his career teaching Veterans in the local Community College, working on a purebred swine operation, and teaching Vocational Agriculture at a local high school. He soon returned to NC State as manager of the NC Central Boar Test on the Central Crops Research Station in Clayton, NC. He moved closer to home in 1980, serving as cross-county livestock agent for Cabarrus and Stanly Counties. Then, in late 81 returned to his home county as an agent responsible for swine and corn production. In 1998, he received a Master’s degree from NCSU and was named County Extension Director. As Director he managed the Union County Performance Tested Bull Sale, oversaw the construction of the Union County Agricultural Complex housing, all Ag related agencies, along with conference facilities, and created the Union County 4-H and Youth Development Foundation, a 501-c to support 4-H and FFA activities.
Upon his retirement in January 2009, he entered the registered Red Angus business, purchasing the KC Long cow herd, one of his long-time cooperators. He later added Trask influenced Polled Herefords. In 2010, he was elected to the Union County Board of Commissioners, serving 12 years, five as Chairman. As Commissioner, he oversaw the construction of the Special Events Center, a meeting/show facility.
The facility is now the Simpson Events Center. The venue holds multiple annual events, including the Union County Bull Sale, March Madness Sale, Santa Gertrudis of the Carolinas Sale, Sweet Union Junior Jackpot Show, livestock meetings and 4-H and FFA contests.
As a member of the Red Angus Association of the Carolinas, Simpson assisted with the creation of the “Stocking Stuffer Sale” held in Marshville in Union

County. After several sales and the loss of the facility, the sale moved to Union Grove, NC, and later ceased due to the lack of numbers. Elected as President of RAAC, Simpson moved to create marketing opportunities for members. “We were a fledgling organization and simply could not generate enough consignments to support a sale. With the creation of the partnership between the Red Angus and Hereford Associations to promote the “Premium Baldy”, the opportunity presented itself to join with a local State Hereford Association and produce a joint sale. Fortunately, the SC Hereford Association saw the potential.
Despite the hiccups of a new endeavor and the impact of COVID, the sale now enters its 5th year. “As purebred associations, we are in the business of selling heterosis to the commercial industry”, states Simpson. Herefords and Red Angus offer fertility, efficiency, and longevity individually, and as maternal breeds offer productivity and profitability when used in a crossbreeding system.”
As Red Angus popularity continues to grow in the Southeast and joins forces with the heritage of Herefords here, opportunities for market share continue to grow. This sale can be an opportunity for young breeders and those new to the business to get a start while providing a showcase for the breeds to market to commercial producers.
According to Simpson, “It all starts with an Abundance Mentality. The key to abundance is meeting limited circumstances with unlimited thoughts. One of the sanest, surest, and most generous joys of life comes from being happy over the good fortune of others.”
