Location: The sale site is at the Ellis Farm, four miles north and eight miles east of Chrisman, IL or three miles north and three miles west of Dana, IN.
Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or check unless prior arrangements have been made with the owners. Settlements are to be make with the clerks of the sale before removing cattle from the grounds. All stock will be at the buyers risk as soon as bid off, but the owners will attend to loading in compliance with the instructions from the purchasers.
Health: Proper health papers will be available.
Registration Certiicates: Certificates of registration will be transferred to the purchaser at the sellers expense. All calves born prior to the sale will be registered at the sellers expense.

We welcome you to our 2025 beef cattle genetic offering. This year marks the 77th anniversary of seedstock production from the Ellis family’s current location. This is the 143rd year our family has offered seedstock Hereford bulls to the commercial cow/calf operator and the 206th year since Phil's ancestor became the first European settler in this township. We now are in the 8th generation of family to manage stock and till the soil at this location. We hang our hat on longevity, perseverance and real world excellence for producing value that commercial cattlemen in the cattle business can access.
We still work hard and do our best to offer functional genetics for commercial cow-calf operators We spend significant time studying the "next 10 years" of the beef industry, from the cow-calf to feeder to packer to consumer. We plan ahead so our genetics will be industry relevant at the time you market the offspring. The Hereford bulls have been feed efficiency tested. We are making incredible strides on efficiency We are seeing bulls that will convert in the high 3-to-1 range now. Definitely not as good as the pork and chicken industry, but a lot better than some of the historical 6-to-1 and 8-to-1 conversions the beef industry has seen.
These are still the tenants we live by, every day; 1) fertility, (2) calving ease, (3) growth (payweight), (4) end product value (carcass), (5) maternal ability (vigor, longevity & cow size). These are functions of a maternal cow herd with added value.
We strive to make sleep all night type herd bulls. We do not make overnight rounds to maternity pens to check on heifers. If a first calf heifer begins calving in the middle of the night, she is expected to have cleaned and nursed it when a human checks on her during the next daylight hours. Just like all our commercial cow-calf customers do themselves. Calves will be born easily and immediately get up to nurse. No exceptions.
If you want MATERNAL COWS, we are your source. We demand cows that hop up after calving a baby and immediately mother and nurse with a high quality udder. Cows that are worn out from pushing do not belong here. They are asked to leave the registered herd. We believe we can utilize the male/female dimorphism to genetically select a smaller cow that also raises calves with a heavier steer carcass weight. We have 22 years of directional selection towards that plan. The cost side implications to your bottom line are huge and we believe the EFBeef momma cow has a multi-year head start in the industry.

He was #2 for RADG at 0.75. Meaning he gained 0.75 pounds per day more than he should have compared to his group. That's very, very good.
He was #1 for RFI at -8.67. Meaning he ate 8.67 pounds less per day than he should have compared to his contemporaries. We have never had a bull at that level of RFI.
Add it all up and this stud converted at 4.56 adj Feed:Gain while eating ONLY 16.9 pounds of dry matter per day.
Best part of this bull is the feed efficiency in him is multi-generational. The most costly aspect of the beef industry and this dude tears down that wall of cost. Neat stuff.
Lot 1's sire is Cost Cutter, who is the most vetted feed efficiency sire we have ever produced. The bull performed in his group exceptionally well (thus the name "Cost Cutter"), then his first progeny data at the AHA-Olsen Sire Test validated and improved his efficiency profile.
