COMMUNITY SAFETY MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

FROM THE DESK OF THE COMMUNITY SAFETY COORDINATOR

We are all saddened by the recent string of gun violence related to our children in the City of Richmond. The loss of these lives will affect the lives of their families forever. Our children are the greatest asset to our communities and we must protect, support, and guide them towards their dreams and goals.

The City of Richmond, in joint efforts with other City agencies and community partners, recently finished information gathering from community members by community members regarding their concerns, ideas, and opinions about youth violence in their neighborhoods. The information collected was analyzed, and a document was produced called the “Youth Gang & Gun Violence Assessment. ”

We want to share the findings with you so you can see what your thoughts and ideas mean going forward as we work to address this most crucial issue.

A GLANCE AT THE FINDINGS

The goal of the assessment is to summarize the results and understand community resident perceptions related to gun and gang violence. The report outlines:

The process by which data were collected Provides the results on community identified causes/needs, solutions, and strengths related to gun and gang violence

Identifies currently available programs and resources addressing gun and gang violence

Results will be used to build on prior knowledge and recommendations developed by the City of Richmond’s Gun Violence Prevention and Intervention steering committee. The report also serves as a preliminary summary of the current work from members of the Gun Violence Prevention and Intervention steering committee. It describes the current collaborative landscape to further align and coordinate future work across organizations.
