Charlie Buckner A Plywood "Tophand"

There is a good book tl-rat says that "A prophet is not without honor save in his own country." In a lot of cases that is probably true as scripture. In fact it IS scripture. But in the case of Charlie Buckner the Biblical remark just doesn't hold water. For Charlie IS a prophet in the plywood business. And his friends in the industry seem to be generally of the opinion that he is WITH honor; a prophet who has earned the respect and admiration of everyone connected with that industry.

It was 23 years ago to be exact that the writer of this piece first met Charlie Buckner. It was in Portland, Oregon, and rve grinned, shook hands, and sat down for a friendly chat. That chat lasted all the remainder of the day. And, as is most unusual in the case of this writer, he did nothing much but listen. Charlie Buckner, with a bit of needling, did the talking. And often in the few years that follorve<l he sat while Charlie Buckner talked salesmanship. It wasn't long before Buckner's chief subject was plywood; plywood of the Douglas fir variety. When he got hold of plywood it opened for him a whole world of delightful sales possibilities. The things Charlie predicted to us about plywood about cover all the great improvements and advances that plywood has
