The A. K. Wilson Lumber Co. recently observed the third anniversary of tl-reir Compton remanufacturing plant. This company has from its establishment continually improved and increased its plant facilities for better production and has set high standards for quality of rvorkmanship in the lumber remanufacturing industry.

The present site utilizes 52 acres of ti-re company property between Alameda and Wilmington I3lvds., bordering Del Amo and has approximately 25 acres of blacktop with the balance graded for lurnber storage or covered r'vith decomposed granite.

The plant consists of modern machinery manned by capable personnel, in buildings designed for each operation' The equipment consists of a 54" Turner Trvin ltesarv, Mershon Horizontal Resarv, Yates-American Horizontal Resarv, 84" l'rescott Resalv, Berlin Resau'', fully motorizecl American Planer, Woods 134-N{B Sticker, I\{attison 276 Sticker and a Woods 415-M l'laner. In addition to this equipment there are various eclgers, cutoff and rip salvs i'tnd one of the longest green chains in Southern California. All lumber is handled on lifts, feecl chair-rs and green chains and is serviced by four Hvster Carriers, one Ross Lift Truck ancl three Hyster Stackers. The equipment for maintenance consists of trvo 2-ton trucks, one pickup, one motor sweeper, tr,vo jeeps and a fullv equipped sheetmetal' rvelding ancl machine shop rvith lathes, drill presses, rvelders and sl-reet metal equiPment'

Trvo nerv building and storage sheds 10Ox2@' each rvere recently completed to provide space for nerv equipment and the storing of lumber. This 40,000 square feet of neu' buildings covers complete facilities for loading cars on 300'of covered track.

The plant capacity is in excess of one million board feet per rveek. The principal items mauufactured are Redr,vood Bevel Siding, finish and pattern stock, dimension pickets and mouldings. The present production facilities are capable of producing and shipping tlvo cars of Redrvood Bevel Siding each duy. An inventory oI from 6,000,000 to 10,000,000 board feet is maintained. Three nerv dry kilns rvith a combined capacity of 750,000 board feet are in continuous operation. Lumber is sl-ripped from the Coast Recln'ood Co., owned by A. K' Wilson, at Samoa, California, to the Compton plant for processing, and reshipment or local distribution. The incoming and outgoing rail shipments are handled on two spur tracks each 1200' in length, rvith a Climax locomotive for switching cars' Jhe plant payroli consists of over 200 employees and an office and sales force of 25 people. Harbor Plywood Corp. oI Cclif. Opens Warehouse in Oqkland

Harbor Plywood Corp. of California has opened a new warehouse in Oakland, according to an announcement by Wayne Rar,r'lings, vice president and general manager, San Francisco.

The rvarehouse is located at 26th and Wood Streets, Oakland, and it is under the management of Richard Osmundson.

The inventory will include Super Harbord exterior plyrvoods, Harborite, Harbord interior plyu'oods, doors, Formica, Celotex insulation, and Celotex roofing products.

Clay Brown & Company has opened an office at 5670 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles 36, where they will carry on a wholesale business in lumber, plywood, doors and veneers. Clarence A. Hill, vice president, is in charge. The telephone number of WEbster 3-0405.

Mr. Hill was formerly in charge of the company's buying office in Eureka, and prior to that was manager of the Humboldt Plywood Corporation at Arcata, Calif.
