New Mill to Start June I

The ner,v sar'vmill of Sugar Pine Lumber Co' at Hoppa, Calif., rvhich is affiliated with the Arcata Manufacturing Co., Arcata, has a capacity of 100,000 feet per day, and is expectecl to start operation June 1. It is a band mill, and the cut is mainiy fir, with some Sugar pine, and small percentages of Ponderosa pine and Incense cedar.

A. J. Wcgmer

A. J. Wagner, 78, formerly auditor for the Santa Fe Lumber Co., San Franiisco, passed away April 26, in a San Francisco hospital.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ada Belle Wagner. He was associated with the Santa Fe Lumber Co., for more than 30 years, and retired two years ago.

Death of Mcrx A. Vener

Max A. Vener, aged 47, president of the Zero Plywood Company, of Los Angeles, died May llth in Good Samaritan Hospital after a month's illness. His funeral was conduncted with Masonic rites on May 13th, and he was buried at Beth Olam Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, one son, and three grandchilddren.

Clarence U. Beach, 62, Los Angeles, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on March 25, while on a call at the Wilmington yard of the Consolidated Lumber Co., by rvhom he had been employed as salesman in the Los Angeles area the past twelve years. Previously he had been 'ivith the San Pedro Lumber Co. and the Owens-Parks Lumber Co. as salesman in the same field. Before coming to I-os Angeles he was in the lumber business in Seattle. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Hazel Beach. Funeral services were held in the Chapel of the Pines, Rosedale Crematory, Los Angeles.

Hcrrry S. Thompson

Harry S. Thompson, r,vell known former retail lumberman, passed away in San Francisco May n, I9+9.

He started in the lumber business with the late J. H. Kruse, and a few years later, in 1909, established his own business. In 1941 he sold out and retired.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Henrietta Kruse Thornpson; a daughter, Mrs. Gladys T. Moncure; a sister, Miss Mabel A. Thompson. IIe was born in San Francisco 69 years ago.

lle was a member of King Solomon Lodge No. 260, F. & A. M.; Fresno Commandery, K. T.; Islam Temple, A.A.O.N.MS, and the Rotary Club of San Francisco.
