How Lumber Looks
The Naitional Lumber Manufacturers Assn. reported shipments of 509 mills in the week ended February 25 were 5.9/o above production; orders were 1.3/o belorn and unfilled orders were 39/o of stocks.
The West Coast Lumbermen's Asqn. reported for 172 mills (153 operating) in the week ended March 3: production, ll2,2U),933 feet; shipments, I08,52+,829 feet; orders, 121,963,937 f.eet (8.7/o over production).
The Western Pine Assn. reported for 115 mills in the week ended February 25: production, 73,582,000 feet; shipments, 76,754,0n feet; orders, 66,DO,0W feet. The WPA reported lumber production in the 12-state Western pine region in January dropped almost l4/o below the December level but was nearly 4/o over January 1955. Shipments declined almost 2/o fuom December but were nearly 3/o over the same month last year.
