The lumber company also reports that bv decreasing inter-office communication time, 'rvith the use oI the TelAutograph Telescriber System, more time is devoted to handling customer telephone calls. The seven trunk lines \\,ere so constantly busy that customers had difficulty getting a call in. With the same number of persons handling telephones, White Ilrothers can now give its customers more efficient and virtually instantaneous service.

Messages are u'ritten l'ith a stylus ore a metal plate. The sender sees it reproduced in facsimile form as it appears at receiving stations selected for reception bv the sender.

Jerry S. Frank has been named general manager of the TelAutograph Division, TelAutograph Corporation of Los Angeles, announced Louis R. Kurtin, chairr-nan of the board and president. Frank has served as director of rnarketing and also supervised the sales and leasing of TelAutograph Tele-scriber Systems for "Electronic Longhand." The firn-r, listed on the Nerv York Stock Exchange, is transferring its principal operations to Los Angeles, rvhere Frank is based.

F. W. Dodge Corporation's reports of contract awards forfuture construction in the 37 eastern states set a nerv high record for January at $1,858,2 ,000. This was 25/o ahead of the previous January record set last year.
Awards for residential building totalled $694,392,Am, reversing a declining tendency whicl-r appeared late in 1955 and rising to a new record high,3/o above the record set in January of last year. This marks the fourth successive year in which new January residential records have been set.
Oronge Building Continues High
Santa- Ana- Orange county building this January topped December by I35/o and January 1955 by 76/o for not only the largest lanuary but also the largest single monthly building permit total in the county history. This year's January figure was $16,592,273, compared to $9,445,583 the same month last year.

Morris Tyre, president, Bel-Air Door Co., Alhambra, and Mrs. Tyre are on a combined business-pleasure trip to the Orient, having sailed last month on the S.S. President Cleveland for Honolulu, Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines to visit business associates in Tokyo and Manila and arrange summer and fall shipments of materials for his manufacturing plant. They are expected back late in April or early May.
Frank H. Martell, San Francisco, was a recent visitor at the CLM office in Los Angeles. He represents the J. E. Higgins Lumber Co. as plant superintendent and was engaged in securing some additional machinery equipment. He reports that Higgins continues to spread out ir-r various directions and plays a bigger part in the hardwood trade of the Pacific Coast than ever before.
Bert Cole, vice-president in charge of product sales for Atlas Plywood Corp., Boston, was a recent southern California visitor in company with Robert A. Muller, president of the plywood firm, on a swing around the U.S. While in the west they visited Davidson Plywood and Lumber Company plants with John Eells, vice-president in charge, in both San Francisco and San Diego. Following a Los Angeles stay, they returned via the Pacific Northwest where they visited plywood producing mills.
Sherman Bishop, sales manager, lJnion Lumber Co., returned to his San Francisco offices the first of March follorving an extensive trip through the east and midwest.

Heron Mills, Inc. and Rocky Mount Mfg. Co., two Shasta county lumber mills seized by the Internal Revenue bureau for $50,000 alleged back taxes, have been sued by 51 employes who claim $18,148 in back wages due. Suit asks a lien on 2 million b.f. of logs and lumber owned by the mills.
