Redwood Promotion: Natural QualitY, Durability

California Redwbod Association's new four-page ad telling retailers, wholesalers and home center dealers about redwood's special natural qualities that have made it the longtime favorite for decks, trellises and outdoor projects and the premium product for paneling and siding.

Just part of the CRA's new redwood promotion program for 1980, the full color insert will appear in national and regional trade publications with the message that redwood's natural qualities and longterm performance make it one of the most demanded, marketable and profitable specialty products.

All heart redwood's natural resistance to decay, redwood's resistance to warping, checking and splitting and its low maintenance and natural beauty gives dealers many marketing opportunities for successful high profit, high volume sales.

The CRA's 1980 promotions will also continue to build a steady, pre- sold demand for redwood with an extensive advertising program that will reach architects, builders and specifiers as well as consumers.

For specifiers, the CRA will continue to run its two-page color ad on the variety of redwood grades and applications in major specifier publications. A new ad for builders on using redwood garden grades for multi-unit amenities will appear in national building trade publications.

Also, two new consumer ads on redwood clear and garden grades will appear in publications such as Better Homes & Gardens, House Beautiful, House & Garden, Popular Mechanicsand Woman's Day ldeas.

Newspaper and magazine publicity will continue to feature ideas for using redwood garden grades for decks, trellises, and outdoor living environments. For the fourth year, spring publicity will feature CRA's successful Redwood Design-aDeck Plans Kit, a complete do-ityourself deck design package. Over 90,000 kits have been sold as gasoline costs and shortages increase consumer interest in home improvement and stay-at-home outdoor living. Fall publicity will feature ideas for using redwood clear grades for paneling, siding and quality remodeling projects.

To support the increasing demand for redwood design ideas and sales aids, the CRA will introduce an eight-page color booklet on using redwood garden grades for spa, pool and hot tub environments, adding to a growing library of design and technical information, do-it-yourself construction tipsheets and sales aids that are available to dealers.

The promotions are timed to give dealers an early start on planning, buying and inventorying redwood lumber products for successful promotions andtie-ins that coincide with the spring building season.
