Riot Insuronce Bill

Riot insurance would be guaranteed to homes and businesses in urban centers under legislation recently introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The bill would set up a $200 million corporation authorized to reinsure private firms offering property and casualty insur' ance in urban areas at reasonable rates on a non.discriminatory basis. The legislation is sponsored by Reps. Moss (D-Calif.), Dingell (D-Mich.), and Adams (D'Wash.).

FHA Accepts New Lumber Sizes

The FHA will accept lumber produced to l7/2" dry size and also to L-g/16" green size, according to Charles Dieman, assistant commissioner fo-r technical standards. As in the past, lumber must be seasoned to 19 percent or lower m.c. before a building is enclosed. The new green surfaced sizes will provide -u t1Y material saving of about two percent compared with the old standard for green lumber.

During the past three years. cxtensive new installations have been made. Thc first of these installations was in the planing mill. Automatic take away rolls were placed al each of the eleven pull ofi stations cf the planer chain. An over the end installation of lift hoist and take away rolls to handle the quantity item (grade and length) from thc planer rvcre added. All items are then handled by the overhead ..urr".

Next, the log pond was eliminated. Now logs are handled b1' a l7-ton Caterpillar 9668 wheel loader. This makes it pos-sible to make a complete sort of logs by species for storage-sprinkling when necessary-and primarily, to provide longer .uns nf arly spccies.

A Beloit Barker was installed to handle tp to 62,, logs. To complete this installation, a Sumner Chipper was also installed. Approximately 700 tons of bark are produced and sold each month {or resale as mulch and for landscaping uses. About 2200 tons of green chips are sold each month to Kimberlv-Clark Corp., {or use in their nearby paper mill.
