Thinner paneling may be used satis' factorily over sound existing walls {or economy installation. If a customer requires reduction in sound transmission between rooms, L/z' gypsum wallboard or sound deadening board can be used under /4" paneling. . . . Sell paneling accessories as necessitiesnot as options. The profits gained from the sales of paneling accessoriesmouldings, adhesives. colored nails. etc.maY equal the profit dollars derived from the basic paneling sale. Impress upon your salesmen the importance of including these items plus necessity of suggesting "do-it-yourself" toolscolored putty sticks, hammer, saw, chalk line, miter box and level. . . New paneling obsoletes old floors, doors, windows and ceilings. After paneling sale has been completed, it is the opportune time to suggest new floor covering, modern ceiling, flush doors and hardware, plus new combination windows and screens. Remember. in room additions. thermal insulation is also required in outside walls and ceilings for efficient operation o{ heating and air conditioning.

(7) Here are some "Do's and Don'ts" in selling prefinished hardwood paneling.
Don't sell factory seconds unless you specialize in promoting re' ject merchandise; otherwise, this practice may undermine your profit margins on first quality paneling.
. Do have t'close out" sales on discontinued first panels providing your stock is adequate to justify this ofiering. Unadvertised store specials represent the best method for selling odd lots. let your customers sort through your stock of panels to find most desirable color and pattern. The remaining panels will be less saleable and may have to be discounted.

. Don't sell 4xI0' hardwood paneling if it's possible to switch customer to 4x8', High ceilings may be pieced using a prefinished divider moulding. Preferably, convince your customer to lower ceiling to eight foot height. This will save your customer the price premium normally charged for l0' lengths with savings applied against cost of modern suspended ceiling.
. Do sell natural veneer hardwood paneling to match cabinet hardwoods in kitchens and family rooms.
. . Do protect hardwood paneling in handling and shipping to minimize damage complaints. Hardwood paneling should be treated with the same care as fine hardwood furniture.

Do price all hardwood panels by the sheet for ready cost comparison by your customers and to assist "step up" selling by your salesmen.
. Don't display hardwood paneling samples that are not representative of color, graining, and character marks.
. Do attach matching mouldings to all prefinished hardwood paneling displays to insure customer exposure with resultant sales,
. Don't understock items in hardwood plywood inventory insufficient to service minimum 30 days sales volume expectancy. It's better to climinate stocking of slow moving items than to carry small stock; pick up these items as required from local wholesaler. Provide for additional inventories during height of spring and fall remodeling seasons and prior to special sales.
