Mfgrs. First Profits Since '69

Building products manufactdrers posted a solid gain in profits during the second quarter, according to the F. W. Dodge Division of McGraw-Hill Information Sys' tems Company. It was the first time since 1969 that Dodge's sample of building materials,producers showed a year-to-year improvement in earnii-rgs. The remainder of l97l is expected to show further profit improvement for this group of manufacturers, the firm reported. The sampling of. 64 makers, representing 14 difierent construction product categories, revealed an average 13 percent rise in profits and a 15 percent increase in sales in the second quarter, as compared with a year ago. Only five of tl-re 14 categories showed profit declines.

Manuel Lavrador, head man at MacBeath Hardwood in Berkeley. He started with them in 1955 and is proud that it is his 'ofirst and only" job. He is on the Board of Directgrs of Oakland Hoo-Hoo Club.

Born in Portugal, Manuel came to the East Bay at 8 years of age. He attended Berkeley High and studied at West Contra Costa College.

Manuel has been married for fourteen years and is the father of five children. They live in San Ramon.
