Zenith Lumber Re-qctivoted

The yard of a San Francisco East Bay firm with seven decades of history behind it is being re-activated by Ike Zafrani, the president of Harbor Lumber Co. The firm is Zenith Lumber Co., now a division of the

San Francisco-based Harbor Lumber Co.

L. R. "Andy" Anderson, the manager, began in 1936 with Lincoln Lumber Co. Office manager is Mrs. Zelda Sousa.

The property, 4l/z acres, is a concentration and distribution center, serving the northern San Francisco Bay area. Plans are underway for activating a re-saw, planer and moulder. The yard can stock twelve million feet of lumber.

Clyde Spear, founder oI Zenith, with the true traditionalism of the old-time lumberman, moved his original, small office building from Oakland when he launched the Zenith yard. Spear was active into his eighties.

G-P Ups New Growlh Output

Expansion of plywood sheathing production in the Western fir timber region and a related cutback in r"nd"d plywood ou@ut has been announced by Georgia-Pacific.

The move is based on the increased growth of new timber replacing stagnant over-age timber, according to

Harry Merlo, exec. vp.

It also coincides with increased company production of particleboard, made from once wasted wood chips, that is replacing sanded plywood in some markets, it was explained. New G-P particleboard plants will add nearly 200 million square feet of capacity this year.

SFl ond Riegel Plon Merger

Southwest Forest Industries and Riegel Paper Corp. have reached agreement in principle under which the paper and real estate activities of Riegel would be merged into Southwest. First, Riegel's packagins and industrial divisions would be spun-off as a separate company owned by Riegel's present shareholders.

The transaction would replesent a consideration estimated at $l12.3 million, including assumption by Southwest of a portion of Reigel's senior obligations of $32.5 million. Southwest's name would be changed to Southwest Riegel Corp. oration. SFI is headquartered in Phoenix, Riegel Paper in New York.
