Our seventh annual marketing conference, which occurs just after this iss e goes to press, again is using a small group format for discussion. Naturally, on completion of our area meetings, where the Occupational Safety and Health Act is being explained, implementation must begin.

Meeting the provisions of the act will not be difficult for most lumbermen in California, since the present ccdes are among the strictest in the country. Nevertheless some changes are in order.

Record keeping will be one of the new provisions. All businesses should have received, by this time, an information packet from the Department of Labor with the forms, a notice to be posted and some instructions on compliance.

Naturally, any questions that come to mind can be referred to the association.

But all is not bad. In October, the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers will hold their annual meeting in Coronado, at the beautiful DeI Coronado Hotel. Mark your calendar now for the dates, October 24-28. A big program of business and social events are being planned. And October has to be one of the finest months, climactically, in the San Diego area.

Foliowing that is the Annual Management Conference in Palm Springs, for LASC members. Nov. 1.1-13.

Plan now to attend these meetings. They are just another one of the ways the association functions to assist you in your everyday endeavor as a busincssman in the building materials industry.

Di Giorgio Corp., San Francisco, has entered into an agreement to acquire Hearin Products, Inc., Beaverton, Ore., a manufacturer of prefinished plywood, printed and em. bossed paneling, as well as flakeboard and related items. No price has been revealed.

Founded in 1969, Hearin Products has grown rapidly as a supplier of specialty finished, printed, embossed and vinyl-coated lauan plywood and flakeboard. AIS New Koppers Distributor

Koppers Co. has appointed American Lumber Species Co., Sacramento, Calif., as a distributor for its laminated beams in the state.

Koppers produces the laminated beams at its Sumner, Wash. plant and will ship them to its Oroville, Calif., plant which will serve as a distribution center for ALS. Beams of 14 different dimensions, and up to 72 feet in length, will be held in stock at Oroville by A,LS at all times.

ALS is one of California's leading lumber wholesale firms and now will be able to 6a[s prompt shipment of the Koppers laminated beams to lumber dealers throughout the state.
