HOBBS WALL LUMBER CO.lING

l\ EALERS ARE showing arr lJ increased concern lor legislative issues. I have noticed an increase in dealer participation at both the state and federal levels when the industry requests letters to legislators on issues that affect our industry.

Our Building Material Industry Political Action Committee has receivdd over $8,000 in contributions for the 1979 campaign. This is far short of our goal and I hope that all of you have made a contribution of $100 per each million $ of gross sales. Send your check to BMI/PAC, 1055 Lincoln Ave., San Jose, Ca.95125.

Now that we have our state political action machinery in motion we are going to attack on all fronts. On May 1-2, 1979, we are organizing a State Legislative Day in Sacramento. I urge each dealer to make it a priority to be in Sacramento during this period. We will conduct briefings for you on key issues in the state legislative process that will have a major impact on our industry.

We will arm you with back up material on these issues for you to present and discuss with your state legislators. You will have requested an appointment with your state legislators prior to the meeting. Appointments will be made for May

Once you have been given the back up material you will be prepared to meet your legislators face-to-face and present your views on how the issues will affect your business.

We have found from our six years of experience with our annual Conference with Congress that this type face-to-face meeting rgains momentum and importance for the legislators. When a large industry delegation appears in Sacramento, they become a little edgy. With the amount of legislative pressure lrom the consumer groupsJ environmentalists and saviors ol the world, we must step in to protect our own industry.

Many of you are planning to attend the Annual Conference with Congress in Washington, D.C. April 10-12. We anticipate that 20 or more dealers and their wives will make the trek with our California contingent to express our views to Congress.

Literature will be mailed to you in the near future and il you have not had the experience of visiting Washington, D.C. and participating in the political arena, join us. It is an experience you will long remember.

Our group will plan departure from San Francisco around 7:30 a.m. April 9, and depart Washington for SF around 9:00 a.m. April 12. Plan on joining us and bring your wife to visit the Hill also.
