The war against wood use
There is universal agreement in this business that the environmencalists are winning the war against wood use. Everyone agrees something must be done to protect our interests. Often there is agreement on the methods required to defend ourselves. Scores of small organizations daily fight the good fight. They do their best. And that is exactly the problem.
Our existing organizations are too small, too broke and too narrowly focused. They aren't coordinated with one another's efforts. What's required to effectively rebuff the enviros and salvage what remains of our country's resources is to have an organization large and etTective enough

tio get the job done. Despite the good efforts of many, lhis business still lacks an umbrella group with the lnow-how and finances to correct public opinion and achieve sensible governmental and judicial decisions on using our wood resources. Our indusry's leaders and their associations and groups have so far failed to create and fund a broad-based organization to do the job needed. Small groups, grass roots workers and the like all perfonn a vital role and we sincerely salute them. But without the firepower of an all industry effort, we'll continue to win the occasional skirmish, but too few of the big battles and, we're afraid, the war itself.
We need to collectively ask our top people to get involved and create the champion to win our war. The rest of us have been doing our best. It's not enough. Now we have to do what's required.
