“Currently the Sinzanryu includes the study of traditional weapons such rokushaku-bo, sai, tunfa, nunchaku, kama, eku, with the addition of less used weapons such as tan-bo nitan-bo, tsue-bo and yawara-bo.” LEGACY OF A TECHNICAL & CULTURAL TRADITION
The Sinzanryu, as mentioned above, includes not only the fight with their empty hands, in the sense of karate, but also the study of fight methods with typical weapons of Okinawan tradition. Such as any dojo in Okinawa, also for Koshinkan it is of utmost importance to preserve the ancient indigenous tradition, and Yabiku Sensei believes that kobudo has an high technical and cultural value; for this reason, thanks to his practice completed under various well-known masters of Okinawa, he has incorporated in the Sinzanryu system the methods of Matayoshi line and Yamanniryu (or Yamaneryu), as well as some rare kata imported from China. Currently the Sinzanryu includes the study of traditional weapons such rokushaku-bo, sai, tunfa, nunchaku, kama, eku, with the addition of less used weapons such as tan-bo nitan-bo, tsue-bo and yawara-bo. It is important to highlight that the large number of proposed kata, of empty hand and weapons, is linked precisely to the research and preservation of historical and technical roots of karate and kobudo, as well as it’s linked to the opportunity to learn techniques and tactics for fight that lead students to discover by themself the Way that most suits them. The Sinzanryu is also a very spiritual creed, and Yabiku Sensei is a very wise teacher. He often refers to the traditional philosophies and indigenous culture to reflect on aspects of life, and tells anecdotes lived with his beloved masters or told him by them during their training. Sensei often says that the Sinzanryu can be practiced only by those who have a great kokoro (heart and soul); he says that simplicity is the most complex and important technique, in the doctrine of fight such as in the doctrine of morals. The karateka must be a simple person, with pure heart: it will lead to the correct Way to become a real strong karateka, and one day to have full mastery in the Sinzanryu. This article was authorized by Yabiku Sensei, and it’s an extract from the technical manual written for the most part by the Master. It will be soon edited by his direct student, Prof Angelo Bonanno, with permission of the teacher.
