Secondary Student Leadership

A message from Mr Bell:

The secondary student council has made great strides in making a difference to the day to day running of the secondary school. The secondary student council have helped to organise major school events such as; International Languages Day, Children in Need and Students Day. Students feel they have a voice and representatives they can turn to for suggestions and ideas. Michelle and Chan are now leading most student council meetings with organised agendas and minutes. Michelle and Chan’s leadership and guidance is one of the main reasons why the student council is thriving. I hope they continue to come up with initiatives and ideas that will improve BBIS for the better moving forward to next year.

Mike, the school ambassador

It was a pleasure to represent this school as a student Ambassador. I am grateful to the student council who often supported me in implementing decisions and providing ideas for further improvement of this school. I also felt contributing every time I had to say a speech and deliver crucial information to the students. I feel like we are slowly making this school a better place and we will inevitably bring improvements as we keep coming up with ideas and implementing them.

Chan, the leader of upper school student council In this school year,

I had the wonderful opportunity to be part of the upper school student council thanks to Mrs. Porritt. Starting from the member to the leader, the council has developed my leadership, communication and creative skills. Whether it was collaborating with fellow council members, engaging with teachers and administrators, or addressing the concerns of my fellow students, I realized that clear and open communication was the key to success. Learning to listen actively, express myself articulately, and convey ideas effectively has been crucial in maintaining a harmonious and productive environment within the council. This year, the council devoted for various range of year level. For example, we’ve got permitted going out to get foods during break and lunch time for DP student, chosen a MYP4 representatives, given out more school prize for the end of year term, adjusted the air condition policies after students’ complaints, and organized. Farsang events. For the next school year, the student council will collaborate with the school ambassadors more actively to attain their promises.

Michelle the leader of the lower school student council

As the lower student council leader, I want to announce that it has been a pleasure to work with the lower school student council members. They have worked excellently throughout the year and they have all put their absolute best efforts into their works. I’m very glad to be given this opportunity to work with them and witness their work in progress. We have taken countless suggestions into account and set up different events to help the students relax or have fun. My proudest moment being in student council was when we organised the Children's day event practically all by ourselves. We came up with the idea and took action to complete this quickly and efficiently. All members have worked very hard on this event and the event itself was very successful. Almost all students and teachers have enjoyed this event we arranged. The teachers got to rest and the students could take charge and have fun, the event passed by fast as all sorts of games and lessons took place during that day. I find the lower student council members to be great caring and opened minded individuals. Their teamwork skills and communication throughout the year with different pupils have been exceptional and I’m very delighted to have them on my team. With their help, our school has become a better place where students can enjoy what they learn. Next year, I want to strive to be in the student council again so I can make our school a better place for staff and students. I want to take a leading position again and show what I can do to the shcool. I want to thank every member of the student council for all the hard work they have done this year and the efforts they put into their actions. Without their help, the student council wouldn’t have worked and I sincerely hope they have had a great time working in the student council.

In student council, we have collaborated together to put different events together including, children in need event, children’s day, teachers vs students quiz, bake sale for ukraine refugees and languages day.
